This paper aims at presenting debates and initiatives that constituted the path for the post-graduate program, post-graduate in Education and educational research in Brazil. The broader subject of our investigation is the educational research, considering that, especially on this paper, the focus of our investigation is the analysis that guided the implementation process of the post-graduate in Education. In order to accomplish the proposed objective, we have analyzed articles published on the magazine Revista Brasileira de Estudos Pedagógicos (RBEP) between 1944 and 2012, considering political-institutional issues that contributed to the implementation of the post-graduate in Education and of the educational research in Brazil. It is a bibliographic research. On the bibliographic research, the approximation to the study happens from bibliographic sources. On this approximation, "the awareness of reality is not a mere transition from this reality to the thinking" (LIMA e MIOTO, 2007, p. 40). This paper is made up of four chapters. On the first chapter, we present initial indications about the path for the Brazilian post-graduate emphasizing legal and institutional initiatives adopted on the implementation of this higher education level. On the second chapter, we discuss the debates about the utilization of educational researches on the decisions of the Brazilian educational system. On the third chapter, we focus on the aspects that guided the operation of the post-graduate level in Brazil. On the fourth chapter, we present aspects that contributed to the institutional changes on the Brazilian universities.
