Segregação e desigualdades socioespaciais no município de Duque de Caxias: uma análise comparativa dos bairros surgidos entre 1945 e 1952

The objective of this work is to understand the origins and characteristics of sociospatial inequalities present in the municipality of Duque de Caxias, whose expressive economy contrasts with the precarious social conditions of many of its residents. The methodology consists in comparing educational data, income, type of housing and infrastructure of the neighborhoods Jardim 25 de Agosto, Doutor Laureano, Gramacho, Pilar, Jardim Primavera, Saracuruna, Parque Paulista and Parada Angelica. Although spatially apart from each other and with varying distances from the city core, the eight selected districts arose from popular allotments created at the same time, between 1945 and 1952, immediately after the municipal emancipation period, which occurred in 1943. We seek to understand how the local public policies and the popular allotments made in Duque de Caxias at the time influenced the production of the existing socio-spatial segregation in the city today. Identified the presence of internal disparities in the neighborhoods, and it was concluded that segregation in Duque de Caxias has a spatial component associated with gender and income. It was found that the Jardim 25 de Agosto has far superior to the other seven indicators districts analyzed, an enclave of high income through the metropolitan periphery. Socioeconomic data confirmed an urban pattern still predominantly trodden in the centerperiphery model, since income and infrastructure are strongly correlated and get worse when we observe the more spatially suburbs. It is also concluded that the clientelist politics promoted and maintained by the local elite collaborated in the municipal maintenance as a space deficiencies and structural problems. Thus, it was found that investments and public policies carried out in Duque de Caxias have been directed primarily to serve the interests of industrial capital, commercial and real estate, which promoted an uneven appropriation of urban space
