This thesis aims at analyzing the production of gastronomic centralities with entertaining purposes within Rio de Janeiro city, as well as understanding how such arrangements present their content-form in Gastronomic Centers. Essentially the center of the urban way of life, the city contributes to a daily fast-paced momentum, making leisure and funny moments all but scheduled events. All in order to optimize the remaining lifetime. Such metropolitan habit changes not only socioaffective relations but also the personal encounters. To this end, the use of gastronomy as urban entertainment comes from the influence of elements responsible for persuading citizens to regularly consume gastronomy, which is the act of eating beyond the basic motivations of food or satiation. It is rather targeted to feeling experimentation depicted as exclusive in places such as restaurants and bars. The methodological choice is therefore based on a dialectical approach amongst different human science scholars, interviews with local dealers, regular customers, regular observational visits as well as investigation on the social networks from the neighborhoods the gastronomic centers are located. To achieve the goal, two research investigation fronts were developed, with one integrated to the other: the former permeates the rising of the gastronomic entertainment in the metropolitan urban life together with factors involving the choice of consumption out of merchandising and technological elements. The latter, so as to better understand how these elements have contributed to the migration of centralities to gastronomic centers, legally registered by city documents, such as the Vista Alegre gastronomic center and the Praia da Bica gastronomic center, both located in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro. The research highlights their uses, the rules and local characteristics, unique to each place, so as to the importance of the night temporality to the establishment of a gastronomic consumption atmosphere. Therefore, two challenges took place: analyzing gastronomy under the perspective of metropolitan entertainment and understanding the development of gastronomic centers within the city from the standpoint of such form of consumption by Geography.
