Resumo: | This thesis analyzes the experience of women in the city of Rio de Janeiro through the cultural dimension of their lives, mediated by the artistic practice characteristic of the contemporary urban space, graffiti. The analyzed practice refers to the urban daily life and the lives of women who, through it, translate their struggles and question the pre-established places in society. Based on research developed in the city of Rio de Janeiro, this study recognizes, then, the necessary approach to urban space as a theoretical mediation to analyze the daily artistic experiences of women graffiti artists considered as historical subjects who practice and participate in artistic development. Culture, therefore, is treated as an essential element for social understanding and analysis, and art as an essential dimension of everyday life. However, they are permeated and essentially constituted by contradictions that are linked to the capitalist form of production, generating a significant change in its social function. Some of the main contributions of Frederic Jameson's thought on the cultural logic of late capitalism are analyzed, establishing a dialogue with Raymond Williams on the historical materialist conception in the field of culture, allowing a broader approach to contemporary cultural practices. In the same sense, we seek support in the works of Ernest Fischer to demonstrate how art is indispensable for society because in its emergence it connected with the human capacity for transforming nature. The research involves observation and recording of graffiti practice by eight women in the city of Rio, through semi-structured interviews that resulted in a systematization of these experiences. The research of graffiti through cartographic and photographic surveys was initially adopted as a support to analyze the practice in the city. Complementary, the elaboration of a field diary as an instrument of participant observation during data collection contributed to the understanding of the artistic activity in question. The result of the research recognizes in graffiti, among other aspects, a possibility of expanding the woman to experience the city artistically, and makes a reflection and record about a practice produced by women who live from their work and who use art as mediation in the process of existing and reexisting in the face of patriarchal logic. |

Submitted by Ester CCS/A (ester.souza@uerj.br) on 2021-08-24T16:36:00Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese - Priscila Rodrigues de Castro - 2020 – Completa.pdf.pdf: 2269133 bytes, checksum: f553b996983e25afa3c19e54c43cfc53 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2021-08-24T16:36:00Z (GMT). This thesis analyzes the experience of women in the city of Rio de Janeiro through the cultural dimension of their lives, mediated by the artistic practice characteristic of the contemporary urban space, graffiti. The analyzed practice refers to the urban daily life and the lives of women who, through it, translate their struggles and question the pre-established places in society.
