Resumo: The spatial reorganization of the retailer commerce activities and specialized services in the Central Area of Nova Iguaçu is a consequence of the hegemonic agents- exogenous and endogenous- through big and medium investiments, in local scala, promoving a process of modernization changing, this way, the local physiognomy. The process itself has origin through the 80 s when begins the disruption with the first instaled order, growing through this period the production of new real estate productsshopping centers, closed buildings, apart - hotels, commercial building through others, polarized in new center. The not decentralization of the third activities, result of repulse and atraction force in central areas and not central, cause the emerge of the New Center, concentrating the luxury commerce and specialized services in the city serving the high society, localized in foot of Madureira mountain range. On the other hand, we have the reassert of the Old Center and its popular commerce, that appeared in the 60 s and 70 s when the city turned an exponent commercial sub center of the Metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, attending the population with lower acquisitive power. The emerging of the New Center and the reassert of the Old Center reorganize and redefine the in space of Nova Iguaçu city.

The emerging of the New Center and the reassert of the Old Center reorganize and redefine the in space of Nova Iguaçu city.A reorganização espacial das atividades de comércio varejista e serviços especializados na Área Central de Nova Iguaçu é conseqüência da ação dos agentes hegemônicos- endógenos e exógenos- através de investimentos de médio e grande porte, na escala local, promovendo um processo de modernização alterando, desta forma, a fisionomia local. O processo em tela tem origem a partir dos anos de 1980 quando inicia - se a ruptura com a ordem anteriormente instalada, intensificando - se a partir deste período a produção de novos produtos imobiliários- shopping centers, condomínios fechados, apart - hotéis, edifícios comerciais, dentre outros, polarizados no Centro Novo. A descentralização das atividades terciárias, fruto das forças de repulsão e de atração em áreas centrais e não - centrais, ocasionou a emergência do Centro Novo, concentrando o comércio de luxo e os serviços especializados da cidade atendendo os segmentos de alta renda, localizados no sopé da Serra de Madureira. Em contrapartida, temos a reafirmação do Centro Velho e o seu comércio popular, que surgiu nos anos de 1960 e 1970 quando a cidade tornou - se um expoente sub centro comercial da região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro atendendo a população de menor poder aquisitivo.
