This survey aims to sum up subsides for the correct diagnosis of situations of sexual stigma, and thus promote autonomy and control of health services to LB+ users. Also, this survey adopts a sequence drawing of mixed method in order to collect and interpret data. It uses a model of correlational, cross-sectional, descriptive, and exploratory research. In order to fulfill the objectives and to answer the issue, it was necessary to plan five different and complementary studies. A questionnaire was applied to a sample of 317 women who had been self-identified as lesbians, bisexual or the ones that make sex with other women, of different ethnicities and social conditions, aged 18 or older. The first study was a descriptive bibliometric research in databases, which guided the methodological decisions of the research. Studies 2, 3 and 4 are validity studies of the used instrument. In the last study, there were interviewed three participants with high scores in three dimensions of sexual stigma, in order to exploit qualitative data of associations between the coping of the stigma and the development of the sexual orientation. The results allow to say that the concept of stigma has been pictured in Brazilian studies through a restrictive, attributive and unidimensional approach. The results of the factor analysis confirmed a structure of three factors of the instrument, but some aspects have different results from the ones previewed in literature. Although the Felt Stigma and the Internalized Stigma can be considered closer to each other than the Enacted Stigma, this last one is disclosed in a direct communication with the Internalized Stigma. The regressions between the three dimensions of stigma and the indicators of depression, anxiety and stress, are consistent with the theoretical prediction. The analysis of the interviews, nevertheless, show that the way each person represents his/her experience of sexual orientation, especially after a disclosure, changes the characteristics of the dimensions, its strategies for coping and the produced affections. Researchers and health professionals are encouraged to take into consideration the inclusion of multidimensional models of stigma in their researches, in order to understand the discrimination and its effects through a perspective which is broader and more social than psychological and individual.
