Resumo: This work aims to investigate the path of the church of Nossa Senhora da Apresentação de Irajá as a historical heritage. It seeks to contextualize the act of preservation, through the municipal listing of 1994. This action by the Rio de Janeiro city hall, observed the church for different times in its architecture, for the value of some sacred images and for presenting a devotion, about Maria - mother of Jesus, of the oldest in the city. The research work brings together three thematic axes: history, memory and heritage, to understand the process of patrimonialization of the church in the old rural surroundings of the city that expanded. Today the church is located in the northern and suburban region of the city. We believe that the dissertation has the proposal of an expanded reflection on this object, as announced by the title of the work.

Procura contextualizar o ato de preservação por meio do tombamento municipal de 1994. Essa ação da prefeitura carioca observou a igreja por diferentes épocas em sua arquitetura, pelo valor de algumas obras sacras e por apresentar uma devoção sobre Maria, mãe de Jesus, uma das mais antigas da cidade. O trabalho de pesquisa reúne três eixos temáticos: história, memória e patrimônio, para entender o processo de patrimonialização da igreja nos antigos arredores rurais da cidade que se expandiu. Hoje a igreja localiza-se na região norte e suburbana da cidade.
