This study aims to approach “Time, life, poetry”, a little studied work of Carlos Drummond de Andrade, published in 1986. This narrative is the final product from eight radio interviews, by Drummond depositions granted to journalist Lya Cavalcanti, and carried with the PRA-2 - Radio Ministry of Education and Culture, in the 1950s. Objective in the context of “Time, life, poetry”, appreciate the literary work of narrative as key to recall that project to the memory of autobiographical traces the author's 'media'. In this sense, the singular "performance" of the prose in focus allows us to identify the route of a “literary life”. Mainly on establishing empathy with the receiver and the matter of remembrance and memory incorporated in images contained its own subjective complexity as "character". The richness of poetic artifice with the written orality stages of a singular experience from the narrator, allowing an expanded understanding of literary writing in focus, mainly with regard to self irony and humor in relation to the matter of the recall and memory of his own life, updating readings and criticisms of the canonical body of his writings. This feature of the work allows us to analyze the features of the narrator's autobiographical profile that harmoniously integrate with the autobiographical memory of intellectuals during the Estado Novo period and the country's socio-cultural memory, insofar as the author's intellectual memory, as a critic of his time, contributes to broaden the perception of the organization of national culture between 1920 and 1950
