The goal of this research was to consider the fieldwork with African, refugees currently living in Brazil, specifically in Rio de Janeiro city, and, therefore, set closer the main cultural differences between meanings and values related to language in the African, adult refugees perspective and the stalemates they face based on their discourses in the educational field. The analysis was based on the reflections on language practices conducted by Mikhail Bakhtin (1997, 2006 e 2013). This research has also focused on the contribution to discussions on the concepts of refugee reception from the language policy standpoint (built on glotopolitics) in Brazil from a critical reading of Brazil s Federal Bill on refuge. Hence, we understood that one of our inputs could be organizing a space to reflect on culture and linguistics education related to refugee people. Such theme was talked over with African refugee students through early observation and debates on the extension course Portuguese with Refugees , offered as result of the partnership between State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and PARES Cáritas-RJ. Considering the so many displacements we are put through as well as the chances to be affected, we concluded that the process of refuge is erased in many contexts and we mainly observed that the implementation of a linguistic policy based on glotopolitics is crucial so that the refugees have the opportunity to get integrated to the society in a more effective way
