This thesis parts of the historical construction of the family as important to our society that has experienced profound social, cultural and legal changes since the seventeenth century, especially since the second half of the twentieth century institution. During this period these changes reflected on the structure and dynamics of families, especially with regard to what had been conceived as feminine, very tied to motherhood, and men in general provider functions synonymous. All these changes came directly affecting marital and filial relationship. Amid the many changes made if necessary - an analysis of the implication that also runs through this thesis. Interviews with 8 mothers and adult children who were taken away when they were still children, for various reasons, in order to analyze the meanings that the involved build to and over this separation socially known as abandonment. This behavior, in regards to the woman / mother causes some strangeness in the light of belief in maternal love as a natural attribute of the woman who turns into mother. The interviews enabled us to complete the exercise as maternal care gains important dimensions that the mother is valued according to the greater or lesser proximity with their children and how these children, naturalize the behavior of mothers' , associated with the care, understanding their removal as abandonment. It was also possible to observe how some children identified a preference for the mother's marital condition over abandonment because of the investment in construction of a new relationship does not take in consideration those children. As a result of this separation between mother and sons in the stories we heard, which translate the bibliography of the area , these children have circulated for many homes of relatives, acquaintances and strangers . In the mothers speeches, the idea of remoteness and abandonment do not appear. The right to pursue happiness with another partner and careful delivery of the child are some of the directions they give.
