This research aims to investigate the concept of psychosis in the field of psychoanalysis. The aim was to go through his constructions on the subject throughout Freud's work, finding a vast material produced by the psychoanalyst that supports the study hypothesis that Freud also dedicated his research to psychoses, in addition to neurosis. The author's evolution was verified with selected writings from 1895 to 1924 that contemplated the theme, thus, it was possible to observe his evolution with the question, until it ended up in the structural difference between neurosis and psychosis. In his Lacan studies, this clinical structure was investigated, but limited to his first teaching period. In this path, two ways of dealing with castration were investigated, resulting in psychosis and neurosis structures whose mechanisms are, respectively, rejection (Verwerfung) and repression (Verdrängung). The lack of the signifier Name-of-the-Father and the introduction of the Lacanian concept of Foreclosure were also studied by him, entitling delusion as a substitute found by the psychotic when faced with this lack. Studies on this theme make more possible ways to be sought to deal with these individuals. A path that does not separate or segregate them, but brings them closer, despite their particularities, and above all, knowing how to listen to them.
