This dissertation aims to analyze and measure the relevance that the proposals of production of oral text receive in textbooks from 6th to 9th grade of the Basic Education selected and indicated by the Ministry of Education, in its National Textbook Program Guide, in contrast with those of written production. It also reviews the adequacy of textual genres worked on such proposals, having in mind the preparation of the pupil for the practice of citizenship and the participation in the labor market which may occur due to the domain of the oral language, as orientation of the National Curricular Parameters. As it was impossible to analyze all collections listed in the above-mentioned document, we decided to select the two most frequently adopted in public schools nationwide. It should be emphasized that the National Curricular Parameters, official document that presents a set of theoretical and methodological guidelines for the teaching of Portuguese language, take the study of textual genres as an axis of the work with the native language and are valid throughout the national territory. The National Textbook Program guarantees to almost thirty million Brazilian students from 6th to 9th grade of Elementary School access to textbooks of six curriculum components, including Portuguese, hence the relevance of the research. The results of the investigation point to a lower importance given to orality in the two textbook collections analyzed. Nevertheless, the collections follow the guidelines of the National Curricular Parameters, which recommend that the textual genres of public communication should be prioritized. This work also suggests activities in the teaching of native language in order to reinforce, in the student, the use of oral language varieties appropriate publically, aiming to a broader and legitimate social participation, to the demands of the labor market and to the full accomplishment of the individual that thinks and has practical necessity of expressing his longings
