The main objective of this master's thesis is the field research, carried out at the Maria Rosa Teixeira State College with elementary and high school students, the research focused on investigating the geographical reasoning developed by students from the teaching of Geography, starting from the construction of mental maps on the influence of evangelical churches in the school district and in their daily lives. The research sought to reveal how they used spatial language to express characteristics of influence of evangelical (Pentecostal) churches. It is hypothesized that the elements of the daily space, the place and its material base, associated with the circulation of information and ideas through the media and the Internet have acted significantly in the construction of an evangelical collective imaginary, especially the popular base. Starting from the dynamics of Brazilian religious transformation and the characteristics of Pentecostal Protestantism, considerations are presented about the strategy of territorial expansion of pentecostal evangelical churches in the country. Next, a brief conceptual discussion about spatial representations from mental maps, the main source of empirical research of this research, is presented. Finally, a study will be brought about the construction of this evangelical imaginary from the analysis of the mental maps of students of a state public school in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the municipality of Duas Barras. In methodological terms, this dissertation was elaborated from the survey and bibliographic analysis of quantitative research. As a result, it was empirically verified, especially from the analysis of mental maps and the interviews conducted that pentecostal churches offer spaces of solidarity and welcome, providing their participants with a sense of dignity, in addition to meeting the material and immaterial needs of their members tend to respect their guidelines and norms of conduct.
