Representações sociais de servidores do Inmetro acerca do trabalho, sua instituição e do serviço público

This research sought to investigate the social representations of Inmetro's state employees concerning their institution, work and the Brazilian public service. In a more specific way, it sought to discover whether social representations in the public service of employees who operate in the executive areas of the institution are distinct from those who operate in areas of administrative support. A questionnaire was drawn up containing free comments, issues related to work practices, interpersonal relationships within the organization, and sociodemographic issues. In order to reply the questionnaire, four inductive terms were used state employee, Inmetro, work and public service. The questionnaire was used with 123 state employees located in branches of Inmetro around the state of Rio de Janeiro. The questionnaires were classified into two groups, according to the employees´ fields of operation; the group of employees in the support field and those within the executive field. It was found that there was little differentiation between the groups, especially regarding working practices and interpersonal relationships. The social representations of work and Inmetro did not present any significant distinction between the groups, while the social representations of state employee and public service showed greater discrepancies, pointing out that the area of activity in an organization can influence the construction of the social representations of the groups.
