Resumo: The rapid growth of populations in cities and the remarkable increase in the production of solid waste, caused by the evolution of the basic needs of individuals, contribute to the worsening of environmental issues, such as the degradation of natural resources and consequently of factors that compromise health. In this way, the research aimed to verify the knowledge of employees of bars and restaurants on Avenida Litorânea de São Luís about selective collection. This is a descriptive, exploratory research with a quali-quantitative approach, carried out in 36 establishments, where a form with 11 questions was applied, addressing socioeconomic data, level of knowledge about selective solid waste collection and public policy practices adopted in establishments. . The interviews were carried out between March and May 2021, with a probabilistic sample of 165 employees. The data were categorized and entered into the statistical program STATA 14.0 and the chi-square test (χ2) of association between the variable Knowledge about selective collection and the other variables (gender, age, education, means of communication and days of work) was applied. job). From the answers obtained, it was noticed that the knowledge of the interviewees in relation to the questions made is independent of gender and education, noting a relevance in the age group and income level. With regard to selective collection within the work environment, it was observed that the population extracts are aware of the collection points and the contamination generated by the garbage, as well as what causes the contamination of the environment. Respondents showed knowledge of diseases acquired by lack of awareness in handling the process of collecting this material, highlighting which educational actions can be adopted in the process of reuse of waste and the most efficient way of dissemination.

Submitted by Maria Aparecida (cidazen@gmail.com) on 2022-07-06T16:19:30Z No. of bitstreams: 1 ELLEN FERNANDA MONTEIRO COPES.pdf: 15122593 bytes, checksum: f158aeff9eb7c9303f8dec0e137a2210 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2022-07-06T16:19:30Z (GMT).
