Resumo: This is a study that intertwines medical knowledge with the reading of the Christian Bible, according to the texts contained in the versions: Jerusalem Bible (2016); Pilgrim's Bible (2017) and the Ecumenical Translation of the Bible (2020). This investigation, in the line of Spirituality and Health, was justified in Sciences of Religions which, in its multidisciplinary nature, allows a link between the religious/spiritual and the scientific, favouring professional performance in the practice of a Medicine that comprises the Integral Being and its dimensions. In general, we aim to analyse, in the light of the Phenomenology of Religion, the narratives of patients with resistant tuberculosis (TB) and the test of faith; and, specifically, to identify the possible infectious diseases in the Christian sacred texts of the Pentateuch of the cited translations, evidencing the TB outcomes; to compare the biblical narratives in which TB was referenced; to present TB as a globalized disease and in its locality; reference the historical role of the Hospital Complex for Infectious and Contagious Diseases Dr. Clementino Fraga (CHCF) in welcoming and treating these patients; register how religiosity/spirituality interferes in coping with the health-disease process. The methodology chosen was the qualitative model, with a phenomenological approach. Initially, we catalogued some diseases, possibly infectious, in the Pentateuch, highlighting TB in Leviticus 26.16 and Deuteronomy 28.22, allowing to deepen the study directed to this disease using semi-structured questionnaires and recorded interviews. Inclusion criteria were adult patients diagnosed with resistant TB and undergoing treatment/follow-up at the CHCF. The subjects were identified through a survey in the TB Special Treatments Information System, on November 23, 2021, totalling 17 people. The composition of these subjects, for the most part, was male, aged between 19 and 65 years, coming from João Pessoa/PB and rifampicin-resistant TB resistance pattern type. As for the factors favouring resistance, alcohol use, history of abandonment prior to treatment and HIV coinfection were present, but to a lesser extent. Of these, it was possible to interview five in view of the pandemic context through which the institution has been going. In view of their narratives, we list, through the categories faith, disease and coping, the perception that these interviewees have when confronted about their religiosity/spirituality in the context of TB, identifying moments/situations that have/had connections and/or approximations with the biblical narratives of the Pentateuch. On the other hand, we emphasize that spirituality/religiosity: tends to promote an attitude of resilience; to collaborate with the organization of the daily life of these sick people and for them to assume their condition as a person who needs care; and the importance of establishing a support network in order to generate self-confidence. In addition, we recommend that managers of health services and units that serve TB patients encourage the organization of support groups through integrative and complementary practices. These items tend to have a direct impact on treatment adherence.
