Introduction: Population aging is a phenomenon that has been occurring worldwide, especially in developing countries. The health demands of the Brazilian population have changed, in the direction of the needs of the geriatric population represented by chronic problems that require more sophisticated and costly interventions. In this context, depression emerges as an important disorder in this population. Health professionals, including the nurse, are responsible for implementing strategic assistance methodologies related to a holistic patient follow-up. In order to contribute to the reported issues, nurses use the Nursing Care Systematization (SCS), which is a space for expressing-achieving needs, collaborating to solve nurses' competence problems and articulation with other sectors, professionals or support structures. The nursing consultation is a technological strategy of fundamental importance in this process. This study chose, Wanda Horta's Basic Human Needs Theory, which, besides being one of the most widespread in the country, is a theory that fits the client's chosen service and is the theoretical reference used at the Lauro Wanderley University Hospital. Objectives: To carry out an integrative review, through articles published in journals, on the nursing consultation instrument for the elderly person with depression; to identify the empirical indicators of the Basic Human Needs, correlating with the nomenclature of diagnoses, outcome and interventions; and to construct a nursing consultation instrument for the elderly person with depression. Method: This is a methodological study, developed at the psychiatry outpatient clinic in the Lauro Wanderley University Hospital, in the city of João Pessoa - PB. Its development took three stages: identification of the empirical indicators, anchored in the theory of Basic Human Needs, for the elderly person with depression; development of diagnostic statements and interventions, based on the clinical data identified; elaboration of an instrument for the Nursing Care Systematization, containing all the steps of the nursing process. Results: A broad literature review was conducted to identify the needs of the elderly person with depression, based on what was proposed by Horta, resulting in the achievement of specific indicators. Diagnostic - outcome statements and nursing interventions were developed and subsequently used in the construction of the instrument. After this stage, the final version of the product was elaborated, considering its relevance to the care practice. Final thought: The use of this instrument intends to be an advance in the implementation of the NCS, which will be able to support the team to guide the patient, family, caregiver, to treat the affected needs and to minimize the difficulties already installed, to favor teaching -, to facilitate communication and registration of nursing care. This instrument can be used in nursing teaching and research, making it more effective and promoting visibility of this assistance to the clientele and other nursing professionals.
