Resumo: Population aging is a worldwide phenomenon. In this context, health policies, along with other public policies should promote that the increase in life expectancy is accompanied by quality, through actions that seek to provide equity and improve the conditions and ways of life of the elderly. Thus, health promotion groups are inserted as valuable health empowerment tools for the elderly. The objective was to develop actions in the field of health promotion and education in an elderly group and to understand how participation in the group contributed to health empowerment, from the perspective of the elderly. This is an exploratory study, with a qualitative approach based on the assumptions of action research, conducted with 26 elderly in a small population municipality of Paraíba. The activities were carried out through participatory and dialogical methodologies, from workshops and conversation circles, on themes from the elderly group. After these, 17 elderly were interviewed in order to understand their perceptions about health empowerment. The interviews were recorded and transcribed and analyzed according to the content analysis method. Data collection took place between September 2018 and March 2019, using a field diary and semi-structured interview. The empirical material was submitted to thematic analysis. The project was approved by the CAAE Research Ethics Committee: 93142418.4.0000.5188. The experience in the group according to the elderly influenced the health empowerment of the elderly and the quality of life in relation to the physical, psychological and social domains, leading them to evaluate the relationships between the members, the sharing of experiences and learning, reframing projects of health. stimulate autonomy and independence and satisfaction with health in old age, the result of a collective construction. By introducing a new look to the group where educators and learners became subjects throughout the process, it was possible to intervene politically in the struggle for health, as well as to articulate the educational process to the search for autonomy based on a participatory methodology that allowed the effective action of the students. participants in this process. Nesse contexto, as políticas de saúde, juntamente com outras políticas públicas devem promover que o aumento da expectativa de vida seja acompanhado de qualidade, por meio de ações que busquem proporcionar a equidade e a melhoria das condições e dos modos de viver da pessoa idosa. Assim, os grupos de promoção da saúde se inserem enquanto valiosas ferramentas de empoderamento em saúde da pessoa idosa. O objetivo foi desenvolver ações no campo da promoção e da educação em saúde em um grupo de idosos e compreender de que forma a participação no grupo contribuiu para empoderamento em saúde, a partir da perspectiva dos idosos. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa fundamentado nos pressupostos da pesquisa ação, realizado com 26 idosos em um município de pequeno porte populacional da Paraíba. As atividades foram realizadas mediante metodologias participativas e dialógicas, a partir de oficinas e rodas de conversa, sobre temáticas oriundas do grupo de idosos. Após a realização destas, 17 idosos foram entrevistados a fim de compreender suas percepções sobre o empoderamento em saúde. As entrevistas foram gravadas e transcritas, sendo analisadas segundo o método de análise de conteúdo. A coleta de dados ocorreu entre setembro de 2018 a março de 2019, utilizando-se diário de campo e entrevista semiestruturada. O material empírico foi submetido à análise temática. O projeto foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa CAAE: 93142418.4.0000.5188. A vivência no grupo segundo os idosos influenciou no empoderamento em saúde dos idosos e na qualidade de vida em relação aos domínios físico, psicológico e social, levando-os a avaliarem as relações entre os integrantes, o compartilhamento de experiencias e aprendizagens, ressignificar projetos de vida, estimular a autonomia e independência e a satisfação com a saúde na velhice fruto de uma construção coletiva. Ao introduzir um novo olhar ao grupo onde educadores e educandos passaram a ser sujeitos em todo o processo, foi possível intervir politicamente na luta pela saúde, bem como articular o processo educativo à busca de autonomia alicerçado em uma metodologia participativa que permitiu a atuação efetiva dos participantes nesse processo. A intervenção valorizou os conhecimentos e experiências de todos, oportunizou discussão, identificação e reflexão sobre os problemas de saúde e de vida, construindo sentidos às situações concretas da vida.
