This dissertation aimed at analyzing, with basis on a case study carried out at the Santa Alice Settlement Project Herval/RS, the implications that the ethnic-cultural diversity and the settlers different trajectories of life and work caused in the formation process of a cooperation network that is able to promote the socio-economic development of the settlement taking into account the settlement emancipation proposal made by the Program of Consolidation and Emancipation (Self-Sufficiency) of Settlements resulting from the Agrarian Reform - PAC. The study, in its theoretical framework, is divided in two parts: the first one presents the profile of the settlers and the importance of diversity in the process of sociability and reorganization of the territory modified by the agrarian reform. The second part analyses the development of the Santa Alice from the creation of the PAC, showing the new territorial configuration produced by the rural settlement. The methodological procedures used by the study were based on two quantitative surveys that made it possible to draw the socio-economic profile of the settled families and, after that, a qualitative study that aimed at going deeper into topics concerning the life trajectory of the settlers and their future expectations. By doing this, it was possible to set the importance of considering the diversity found among the settled families, as well as its influence in the development process of the agrarian reform settlements.
