Resumo: The bladder lesions of 59 cattle, from the states of Rio de Janeiro, S?o Paulo, Minas Gerais, Esp?rito Santo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paran? and Amazonas affected by Bovine Enzootic Haematuria (BEH) werw studied histologically. The objective of this study was to describe and reclassify neoplastic and non neoplastic alterations not yet reported, according to the more complete and current nomenclature used in human medicine. There was an almost complete indentity with alterations observed in the bladder of humans. Due to the ocurrence of two or more neoplasms in yhe same animal, differences of the methodology and the concept of classification was not possible. Coexistence of different types of epithelial and/or mesenchymal neoplasms was frequently seen. Rare neoplasms not yet descibed werw found in the bladder of some the animals by BEH. Those were trabecular carcinoma with differentiation in Paneth cells, mesonephroid adenoma and adenocarcinoma, ?signet ring? cell carcinoma, plasmocytoid carcinoma, chromophobe cell carcinoma and nested type of transitional cell carcinoma. Malignization of benign tumors, as for example a transformation of haemangiomas into haemangiosarcomas, was Aldo observed. The study also revealed the occurrence of many tumors with anaplasia and pronounced infiltrative features, but which did not metastize. The elucidation regarding the cause(s) of this ?barrier against met?stases? and its relationships with the chemical carcinogenesis induced by the ptaquiloside, the active principle of bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum), could be of interest for future research with the objective to control neoplasms in humans and animals.

Verificou-se, em termos qualitativos, quase uma perfeita identidade com as les?es de bexiga observadas em seres humanos. Compara??es mais exatas com rela??o ? freq??ncia dessas altera??es ficaram prejudicadas, dadas a ocorr?ncia de duas ou mais neoplasias em um mesmo animal e as diferen?as da metodologia empregada ou do conceito de classifica??o. Coexist?ncia entre neoplasias diversas, epiteliais e/ou mesenquimais, foi vista com freq??ncia. Neoplasias raras, ainda n?o descritas na bexiga de bovinos, como carcinoma trabecular com diferencia??o em c?lulas de Paneth, adenoma e adenocarcinoma mesonefr?ides, carcinoma ?signet ring? (anel de sinete), carcinoma plasmocit?ide, carcinoma de c?lulas crom?fobas e carcinoma transicional tipo ninhado, foram observadas na bexiga de alguns animais com HEB. Tamb?m foi identificada maligniza??o de tumores benignos, como por exemplo a transforma??o de hemangiomas em hemangiossarcomas. O estudo revelou, ainda, a ocorr?ncia de diversos tumores com anaplasia e car?ter infiltrativo acentuados, incapazes, por?m, de metastizarem. description The bladder lesions of 59 cattle, from the states of Rio de Janeiro, S?o Paulo, Minas Gerais, Esp?rito Santo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paran? and Amazonas affected by Bovine Enzootic Haematuria (BEH) werw studied histologically. The objective of this study was to describe and reclassify neoplastic and non neoplastic alterations not yet reported, according to the more complete and current nomenclature used in human medicine. There was an almost complete indentity with alterations observed in the bladder of humans. Due to the ocurrence of two or more neoplasms in yhe same animal, differences of the methodology and the concept of classification was not possible. Coexistence of different types of epithelial and/or mesenchymal neoplasms was frequently seen. Rare neoplasms not yet descibed werw found in the bladder of some the animals by BEH. Those were trabecular carcinoma with differentiation in Paneth cells, mesonephroid adenoma and adenocarcinoma, ?signet ring? cell carcinoma, plasmocytoid carcinoma, chromophobe cell carcinoma and nested type of transitional cell carcinoma. Malignization of benign tumors, as for example a transformation of haemangiomas into haemangiosarcomas, was Aldo observed. The study also revealed the occurrence of many tumors with anaplasia and pronounced infiltrative features, but which did not metastize. The elucidation regarding the cause(s) of this ?barrier against met?stases? and its relationships with the chemical carcinogenesis induced by the ptaquiloside, the active principle of bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum), could be of interest for future research with the objective to control neoplasms in humans and animals.
