Resumo: Since it was established the relationship between stress and physical and mental health, studies on its mechanisms and effects on individuals have become more frequent. Stress no longer an exclusively human condition and have become important for animals in to improve quality of life and performance in the case of working animals. It is known that the spatial restriction, social isolation and the work can be potentially stressful stimuli in dogs. In order to characterize the manifestations of stress during different intensities of work and influence of social isolation / spatial restriction (ISRE) on different neuroendocrine axes in this context, we evaluated 15 dogs policing at baseline (T0) and immediately after (T1) and 30 min after (T2) the paradigms of attack and protection (AP) or basic training (AB). Blood samples were collected at: Baseline, T1 and T2 for evaluation of serum levels of cortisol, thyroxine (T4) and T3. In order to access HPA axis, the baseline cortisol level was within the normal range for the species. Cortisol increased during exposure to both work paradigms, but although delayed, it was higher in AP compared to AB.. In spite of HPT axis, it was observed primary hypothyroidism in these animals. In the work paradigms, only T3 has changed, showing reduction during the AP paradigm. The results suggest that although the animals seem adapted to stress, presenting normal levels of cortisol, hypothyroidism indicates the presence of a possible chronic consequence. The different work activities performed acutely induce different responses of the HPA axis and the HPT axis.

As diferentes atividades de trabalho realizadas induzem agudamente a diferentes respostas do eixo HHA e do eixo HHT.Submitted by Sandra Pereira (srpereira@ufrrj.br) on 2020-05-01T00:44:23Z No. of bitstreams: 1 2013 - Carla Myrrha Chaves Duque.pdf: 1374778 bytes, checksum: e97f4102e948da9cdd594293b124cfe6 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2020-05-01T00:44:23Z (GMT). description Since it was established the relationship between stress and physical and mental health, studies on its mechanisms and effects on individuals have become more frequent.
