Formação de professores para o uso das tecnologias : o caso dos professores de inglês do ensino fundamental das escolas da rede municipal de ensino de Aracaju

This research work aimed at verifying the continuous teachers training for the use of technologies by examining how the technologies have or have not been used, especially the computer and internet, by the English teachers who work in the elementary level of education in the schools which are part of the municipal teaching system of Aracaju-SE, as well as how much they can contribute to the educational process. In order to lay the foundation for the empirical research, a theoretical study was conducted, reflecting upon the current socialeconomic, political and cultural determination of the present situation of worldwide capitalism, when the importance of the English language together with the insertion of the technologies of information and communication have been growing. The policies of continuous training directed to the teachers, together with the public policies for the use of technologies in education were also analysed in order to understand the local reality and compare it to the developments in computer assisted language learning. Bibliographical, documental and empirical research were conducted, the latter making use of semi-structured interview and having as intentional non-probabilistic sample, 9 English teachers of 6 municipal schools, 26.5% of the total number of English teachers who work with the elementary level in the system. The results found indicate the inexistence of public policies related to teachers training to the use of technologies, the inefficiency of English language teaching and the ineffectiveness of the continuous training programs offered by the Municipal Secretaryship of Education. In other words, the study found out that the information and communication technologies are laid aside the educational process.
