Resumo: INTRODUCTION: Brazilian studies show that the consumption of psychotropic drugs happens in ages more and more precocious, being directly related to several factors that act as determinants, among them the acquired habits. The literature has also been showing that adolescents' involvement in practices of physical activity is associated to healthy habits, that play as a protection factor to the drugs use. OBJECTIVE: Verify the relation between drugs consumption and the level of physical activity in schools of the state public net of high school in the city of Aracaju. METHOD: The study was descriptive, survey, with cross-sectional design. The sample was formed of 4869 students, being 63% girls and 37% boys, in ages between 14 and 21 years old. They were applied the questionnaires DUSI-R for a survey drugs use and IPAQ long version to evaluate the level of physical activity. It used descriptive analysis and chi-square test, adopting a significant level of 5%. RESULTS: In the level association of physical activity (LPA), in relation with the category gender, the girls were activer (90%) than the boys (88%), presenting significant statistic difference. The third-year students in the afternoon were activer (91%; 90% respectively) when compared to the others grades and periods of the day, with statistically significant difference. In an analysis association between genders and the distinct types of drugs according to use legality, the biggest consumption proportion in almost all the psychoactive substances belonged to the masculine population, except for the anxiolytic and sedative medications, whose consumption was larger in the feminine gender. The substances that presented significant statistical differences, were alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, cocaine/crack, inhalant, others, ecstasy, opiates, sedative and anabolic steroid. The Association of the age group with the distinct kinds consumption of psychotropic drugs, the group that comprehends the age of 19 years old presented the biggest percentile of consumption in the psychoactive substances majority, showing that the consumption increases according to the age increases. Regarding the distinct kinds consumption of psychotropic drugs according to the level of physical activity, the psychoactive substances (ecstasy, marijuana and tobacco) were consumed most by the classified adolescents as inactive, presenting a positive association. CONCLUSION: It was evidenced that in general there is no relation between drugs consumption and the level of physical activity among observed students, except for the substances tobacco, marijuana and ecstasy. The drugs consumption prevalence (licit and illicit) last month among school adolescents belonged to 49% and the adolescents physical activity level who consume drugs is alike to the ones that do not consume when analyzed globally.
