The study of landscape has contemplated here different looks on the (re)construction of the geographic space of Carmópolis through forms of long duration. First, it was constructed a reading of physiology of the visible forms perceived by the individuals throughout the time. After that, it was undertaken an attempt of theoretical reconstitution of the direction and meaning of the categories, landscape and place as basic conceptual units for the geographic analysis, for excellence, therefore they dialectically dialogue among them and are in the interface between nature and society. The landscape was apprehended while a resultant of legacies or present forces, or forces from the past and the place was understood and taken as being the space of experience of the men. This way, the transformation of the natural landscape of Carmópolis, as well as the lived space the place suffered remarkable impacts that were caused by the development of economic activities that contributed, decisively, for the organization of the geographic space of the city the agro-industrial activity (the sugar cane and coconut-from-bahia) and the mineral extractive activity of the oil. Such landscape has suffered surprising impacts since 1960, with the discovery of the oil. The PETROBRAS was, this way, the main agent of transformation of the landscape and the lived space of that place. This way, it is necessary to reevaluate the model of the implanted development and try to argue it, using rational ways and principle that contribute for the human development, and not only consider the perception of the residents but, also their yearnings and contributions when decidin.
