This work has as its mainly objective to analise the social representations of environment built by children who studies at the Municipal School Zumbi dos Palmares, located at Jacaré-Curituba Settlement, into Sergipe´s sertão. Therefore, we were based on the understanding that the conceptions about the environment are built on relationships established daily between the social subjects and the social and natural environment, due to the fact that they experience a variety of signs and representations, resulting in such interaction, which is the construction of environmental realities. The study is focused on theoretical frameworks on social representations of the environment and construction of environmental knowledge that enabled us to verify: What are the sociocultural aspects experienced by children that allow them to interpret the world in a particular way and act on it? The research starts from data collected through observations, video recordings and drawings of children, becoming itself a qualitative research with an ethnomethodological bias. The categorization of the concept of environment is based on the studies of Sauvé (1997). The results obtained pinpoint that the majority of children perceive the environment as a place to live. Although they understand the need of natural elements to highlight a scenario such as the environment, understanding of the environment as a synonym of nature was tentatively presented as well as the understanding of the environment as a problem and as a resource.
