From the 1980 s until the present, Brazil has been presenting public policies in order to unchain the local development process. These policies, however, are designed without taking into account the municipalities characteristics, vocations or priorities. In this context, the Farol do Desenvolvimento is presented to enhance the governmental acting for the economical development in every municipality of the Região Nordeste, north of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, and to favor local articulation to assure interaction between the community and the government, aiming it s participation in decisions on economical priorities. This work evaluates Farol do Desenvolvimento program in conducting the process of participative shared management for the economical development of Simão Dias. Considering the doctrinaire pretexts and the main characteristics of sustainable development, to achieve the proposed objective, the workshops that took place at that municipality were analyzed, focusing local economical development. The results of the analysis show, among other things, the small importance of the Farol do Desenvolvimento at Simão Dias, the gap between discussed topics by members and the subjects chosen by the Program s coordination, and the inexpressive number of actions for the economical development of that city.
