Resumo: The obstruction of thoracic aorta flow is widely used in human medicine and in researches about drugs used to decrease the isquemic and reperfusion lesions and alterations due to shock. In the present study ware used ten dogs whit were submitted to obstruction of thoracic aorta flow through a catheter introduced into femoral artery until about the eighth intercostal space, where it was maintained during ten minutes. It wase evaluated the viability of femoral access to thoracic aorta, the changes in mean arterial pressure due to the intra-aortic oclusion and the clinical alterations at post operative period of these animals. The femoral artery was viable to the thoracic aorta access and there was a significant difference among the mean arterial pressure during the obstructive period and those obtained during the pre – obstructive and post – obstructive period. At the post operative period only two dogs showed significant clinical alterations.

No presente estudo foram utilizados dez cães que sofreram oclusão do fluxo da aorta torácica através de um cateter introduzido pela artéria femoral até, aproximadamente o oitavo espaço intercostal, onde era mantido durante dez minutos. Foram avaliados a viabilidade do acesso femoral a aorta torácica, as alterações na pressão arterial média decorrentes da obstrução intra-aórtica e as alterações clínicas no pós operatório destes animais. A artéria femoral se mostrou viável ao acesso a aorta torácica, a pressão arterial média durante a obstrução aórtica teve diferença significativa quando comparada aos períodos pré-obstrução e pós-desobstrução.
