Resumo: In Brazil, the supply of beans is not always enough to meet consumer needs. As it is a culture of great importance to the national rotine of food, the use of cultivars with greater productive potential, early cycle and upright plant architecture are desired both by producers and by breeding programs. Therefore, evaluating the genetic gain obtained for these agronomic traits is necessary to analyze efficiency in launch of new common bean cultivars. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic gain of grain yield and its components, as well as phenological and plant architecture traits applied to a database of Value of Cultivation and Use (VCU) experiments conducted from 1998 to 2021. All experiments were carried out in a randomized block design, with three or four replicates, in experimental area of the Federal University of Santa Maria, in rain and dry seasons. The treatments consisted of bean genotypes of different types of grains obtained by the Southern Brazilian Common Bean Network. The following traits were evaluated: grain yield, number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, mass of 100 grains, flowering, cycle, lodging, general adaptation score, height of insertion of the first pod, and height of the last pod. The genetic gain was estimated by the Vencovksy methodology. The new common bean lines developed between 1998 and 2021 show desirable genetic gain for grain yield (1.50%), mass of 100 grains (2.15%), lodging (-3.64%), general adaptation score (-2.47%), and height of insertion of the first pod (4.83%). On the other hand, number of pods per plant (-5.83%), number of grains per pod (-0.45%), flowering (0.95%), cycle (0.29%), and height of insertion to the last pod (1.83%) did not correspond to the expectations of the breeding programs. Finally, common bean cultivars with high grain yield and upright plant architecture are being launched by breeding programs, meeting the demand of rural producers for efficiency in mechanized harvesting.

Finally, common bean cultivars with high grain yield and upright plant architecture are being launched by breeding programs, meeting the demand of rural producers for efficiency in mechanized harvesting.No Brasil, a oferta de feijão nem sempre é suficiente para atender à demanda dos consumidores. Por ser uma cultura de grande importância para a culinária nacional, o uso de cultivares com maior potencial produtivo, de ciclo mais precoce e com arquitetura de planta ereta são almejadas tanto pelos produtores, como pelos programas de melhoramento genético. Por isso, avaliar o ganho genético obtido para caracteres agronômicos é necessário para analisar a eficiência no lançamento de novas cultivares de feijão. Diante disso, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o ganho genético da produtividade de grãos e de seus componentes, bem como de caracteres fenológicos e de arquitetura de planta aplicado a um banco de dados de experimentos de Valor de Cultivo e Uso (VCU) conduzidos entre os anos de 1998 e 2021. Todos os experimentos foram implementados em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com três ou quatro repetições, em área da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, em cultivos de primeira e segunda safras. Os tratamentos constaram de genótipos de feijão de diferentes tipos de grãos obtidos pela Rede Sul-Brasileira de Feijão. Os seguintes caracteres foram avaliados: produtividade de grãos, número de vagens por planta, número de grãos por vagem, massa de 100 grãos, floração, ciclo, nota de acamamento, nota geral de adaptação, altura de inserção da primeira vagem e altura de inserção da última vagem. O ganho genético foi verificado pela metodologia de Vencovksy. As novas linhagens desenvolvidas entre os anos de 1998 e 2021 apresentam ganho genético desejável para produtividade de grãos (1,50%), massa de 100 grãos (2,15%), acamamento (-3,64%), nota geral de adaptação (-2,47%) e altura de inserção da primeira vagem (4,83%). Por outro lado, o número de vagens por planta (-5,83%), o número de grãos por vagem (-0,45%), o ciclo (0,29%), a floração (0,95%) e a altura de inserção da última vagem (1,83%) não corresponderam às expectativas dos programas de melhoramento. Por fim, cultivares de feijão mais produtivas e com arquitetura de planta ereta estão sendo lançadas, atendendo a demanda dos produtores rurais pela eficiência na colheita mecanizada.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências RuraisPrograma de Pós-Graduação em AgronomiaUFSMBrasilAgronomiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPhaseolus vulgaris L.Progresso genéticoProdutividade de grãosValor de cultivo e usoGenetic progressGrain yieldValue of cultivation and useCNPQ::CIENCIAS AGRARIAS::AGRONOMIAGanho genético para caracteres agronômicos de genótipos de feijão avaliados em Santa Maria entre 1998 e 2021Genetic progress for agronomic traits of common bean genotypes evaluated in Santa Maria from 1998 to 2021info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisRibeiro, Nerinéia Dalfollohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5569596745457696Lúcio, Alessandro Dal'ColFollmann, Diego NicolauMaziero, Sandra Mariahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/1495385632579560Santos, Greice Godoy dos5001000000096006006006006006002a458fb6-a362-4ab4-9102-0816600d6c8bdaba04d0-a8dc-4150-ad19-ba19fc0a1a1a5b58bf69-09c1-43d1-a2c0-798e00fa1977a0820514-037f-447e-a8cf-3a95dcfc8773fecdf495-0b41-4953-b9e7-0143bda75aa4reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGAGRONOMIA_2022_SANTOS_GREICE.pdfDIS_PPGAGRONOMIA_2022_SANTOS_GREICE.pdfDissertação de mestradoapplication/pdf1391462http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/25967/1/DIS_PPGAGRONOMIA_2022_SANTOS_GREICE.pdfd59a869dce3a24f74ca8f24bfe7956d1MD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
