Resumo: The energetical issue is knocking on the humanity´s door. The reduction of mundial oil researves, the increase of the demand from the emergent economies, as well as the excessive pollution caused by the fossils fuel s burn denounce the importance on doing a change of the energetic pattern from an oil-dependet model to one composed greatly by renewable energies. Considering this scenario, the present research aims to investigate the opportunity and the economical, social and political possibilities of the south american countries make use of natural gas as a fuel-bridge between one and another model. For that, in a first moment, it starts from the analisys of the regional countries energetical structure s composition to evaluate their complementarity and the nature of the potential and real existent conflicts involving energetical resources to evaluate the possibility to superate them. After that it considers the advantages to utilizate natural gas as a fuel-bridge during the transition period. In a second moment the limits of union models experimented in the region, as the caracteristics that could be expected from an union propeled by the energetical sector are presented. Finally, the regional gas interconection projects in course are mentioned and, by the end, some coordinates that should be observed for that the union constructed trough this sector could serve to make better the regional population general well-being are suggested.

A redução das reservas mundiais de petróleo, o aumento da demanda deste por parte de economias emergentes e a excessiva poluição provocada pela queima de combustíveis fósseis denunciam a importância de fazer-se a mudança do padrão energético de um modelo petróleo-dependente para um composto, majoritariamente, por energias renováveis. Tendo em vista esse cenário, o presente trabalho propõe-se a investigar a oportunidade e as possibilidades econômico-político-sociais de os países sul-americanos fazerem uso do gás natural como combustível-ponte entre um e outro modelo. Para tanto, em um primeiro momento, parte-se não só da análise da composição das matrizes energéticas dos países da região para avaliar a sua complementaridade -, mas também da natureza dos conflitos potenciais e reais existentes que envolvem recursos energéticos para avaliar sua superabilidade. Em seguida, são estudadas as vantagens de utilizar-se do gás natural, como combustível-ponte, durante o período de transição. Num segundo momento, são apresentados os limites dos modelos de integração experimentados na região, bem como as características que se poderiam esperar de uma integração impulsionada pelo setor energético.
