The buildings constitute a material narrative, being consecrated as witnesses of history and incorporating the function of provoking the remembrance of the past. The evoked memories establish a link of history, and it can be affirmed that these goods consolidate relations of identity and important belonging to the community. These spaces, in their urban and architectural relations, establish for the community important links between space and citizenship. The documentation and valuation of cultural assets may gain new forms of expression in actions to preserve cultural patrimony.The rescue of memory is of supreme importance for the construction of a consistent identity, as individual as collective, insofar as it is also an important factor for the sense of belonging. The inventory is an instrument of protection to the cultural patrimony, being one of the oldest forms of protection of cultural patrimony at an international level. The Inventory of Cultural Patimony of Cachoeira do Sul, carried out in 1989, cataloged 123 buildings. The present work has as its subject the investigation, the analysis and the registry on the current situation of the frontal facades of the buildings belonging to the Inventory of Cultural Patrimony of Cachoeira do Sul. Through comparative research of the situation of the copy of when it was inventoried in the year of 1989 and its current situation in 2018, the central and commercial area of the city was delimited, contemplated by Saldanha Marinho Street between Aníbal Loureiro and Tiradentes Streets. The significant number of buildings of architectural and cultural value registered, as well as the high valuation of real estate, in this part of the city, demonstrates the need for research to update and preserve this collection. It is important to consider the valuation of the patrimony as one of the ways of asserting an identity, and the materiality achieved by this patrimony represents the vestiges of the past and constitutes the memory of each individual or of the collective. It is assumed that the valuation of heritage depends mainly on its knowledge and its preservation of the value attributed to history; to value and preserve this patrimony, it is necessary to do an effective work on the patrimonial issue, which is an instrument of individual and collective motivation for the practice of citizenship. This is because the strengthening of the sense of identity is given by the knowledge of the patrimony and by the conscious appropriation of the community. In general, this dissertation seeks a dialogue between technical and historical aspects with the sense of identity present in the community. It proposes to awaken to the importance of cultural patrimony and to value the Inventory of Cultural Patrimony of Cachoeira do Sul, carried out in 1989, aiming at the population understanding that the evolution of time is inevitable and that patrimonial preservation is possible.
