Resumo: Wood characteristics influence the yield of pulp processing and the quality of produced cellulose pulp and paper. Therefore, the goal of this study was to evaluate wood in different axial positions, measuring their proportions: adult and juvenile; earlywood and latewood, relating their influence on the chemical and physical properties and of Pinus taeda and Pinus patula woods on the production of unbleached kraft cellulose pulp and packaging papers. Three trees of each species were selected, with ages of 14 years, in which the commercial heights were divided in base, middle and top. The analysis of extractives, lignins, carbohydrates and ashes rates were done in accordance with the TAPPI standard. The physical and anatomical characteristics of wood that were analyzed were the basic density and proportion of adult/juvenile, earlywood/latewood, respectively. Afterwards, the woods were transformed in brown kraft cellulose pulp and then in papers, which were evaluated in regards to their physical and mechanical properties. The results of the chemical analysis, for both species, showed that wood from the top of the log presented less extractives, ashes and carbohydrates (cellulose and hemicellulose) rates, and a superior lignin rate compared to wood from the middle and base. Wood from the base of the logs resulted in higher density values than middle and top, in both species. The percentages of adult or latewood, for both species, were also higher than in base wood in comparison to top, which presented a higher percentage of young and earlywood. In the pulping process, wood with less lignin, higher carbohydrates rates and high density reached the higher yield and viscosity values, while, for produced papers, wood with higher tracheid lengths and viscosity values presented better results.

Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar madeiras de Pinus taeda e Pinus patula com diferentes proporções de lenhos: adulto e juvenil; inicial e tardio, a fim de determinar a influência dessas madeiras na produção de polpa celulósica kraft marrom e papéis. Foram selecionadas três árvores de cada espécie, com a idade de 14 anos, nas quais a altura comercial foi subdividida em base, meio e topo. As análises de teores de extrativos, ligninas, carboidratos e cinzas foram realizadas segundo a norma TAPPI. As características físicas e anatômicas das madeiras analisadas foram a densidade básica e a proporção de lenhos adulto/juvenil e inicial/tardio, respectivamente. Posteriormente, as madeiras foram transformadas em polpas celulósicas kraft marrom e posteriormente em papéis, os quais foram avaliados com relação a suas propriedades físicas e mecânicas. Os resultados das análises químicas, para ambas as espécies, mostraram que a madeira proveniente da posição axial topo apresentou menores teores de extrativos, cinzas e carboidratos (celulose e hemicelulose), e um teor de lignina superior ao das madeiras do meio e da base. As madeiras da posição axial base resultaram em valores de densidade superiores aos meios e topos, nas duas espécies. As porcentagens de lenhos adulto e tardio, para ambas as espécies, também foram maiores nas madeiras da base em comparação ao do topo, o qual apresentou maior porcentagem de lenhos juvenil e inicial. As fibras desta madeira de base, tanto para Pinus taeda quanto para Pinus patula, resultaram em maior comprimento, além deste se manter constante caracterizando assim o surgimento do lenho adulto. A presença do lenho adulto teve influência positiva nas propriedades da madeira para fins de produção de celulose. As madeiras de base produziram polpas com os maiores valores de rendimentos e de viscosidades. A presença de lenho adulto nas madeiras de base utilizadas para a produção das polpas celulósicas, em ambas as espécies de pinus, resultou em aumento da resistência mecânica dos papéis.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências RuraisPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia FlorestalUFSMBrasilRecursos Florestais e Engenharia FlorestalAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPolpa celulósicaDensidade básicaTraqueídeosCellulose pulpBasic densityTracheidsCNPQ::CIENCIAS AGRARIAS::RECURSOS FLORESTAIS E ENGENHARIA FLORESTALProdução de celulose kraft e papel de madeiras de Pinus taeda L. e Pinus patula Schltdl & Cham.Production of kraft cellulose and paper from Pinus taeda L. and Pinus patula Schltdl & Cham. woodsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisPedrazzi, Cristianehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5167571704789298Almeida, Diego Pierre deXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXRosso, SilvianaXXXXXXXXXXXXXXBaldin, TalitaXXXXXXXXXXXXDenardi, LucianoXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/4732550467662797Vidrano, Bibiana Regina Argenta500200000003600302e885d-dd43-43e0-9f55-ca1ae5808689f5780fae-1c25-4d0f-b8a2-ef527186531285bcc331-46a5-49b3-85bc-f675b813e43a344e56f1-852a-472f-9deb-9aa825cdca062030049e-3678-4632-90bd-01a6a0ebf73d65605dc7-4ce3-4435-bd6b-d8801ea1bd85reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
