Planning a sustainable city is, among other factors, planning a city in search of wellness and quality of life for its inhabitants. Thereby, several authors suggest that the promotion of quality of life is one of the main goals of urban sustainability. The creation and use of renewable energy sources, the offer of alternative transport and quality, the availability of green areas, cultural and leisure options for the population they are some of the objectives present in diverse sustainable agendas and in the construction of the quality of urban life. In this way, the present study aims to analyze the contribution of sustainable urban development to the quality of life in the city of Florianópolis-SC. For that, a qualitative and exploratory research was carried out, operationalized by means of a case study.The case of the city of Florianópolis was studied in depth, in view of its representativeness regarding the quality of life, which allowed the analysis of the phenomenon in a context that allowed the achievement of the stipulated objectives. It was possible to know the characteristics of the city and the main management practices for sustainable urban development formulate in Florianópolis. Especially, it was possible to show urban conditions resulting from these practices, capable of collaborating for the quality of life, among which the following stand out: (1) good indexes achieved in the area of health and education; (2) qualified human capital; (3) preservation of natural areas; (4) attraction of technology companies and startups; (5) studies and action plans carried out by the actors; (6) collaborative civil society and active cultural scene. Moreover, it is evident in Florianópolis aspects of urban planning that need to be improved to become a sustainable city, especially the aspects related to the management and practice of the sustainable projects developed in the municipality. The research presents evidences, therefore, for the confirmation of the theoretical presupposition of the study, which is: sustainable urban development can contribute to the promotion of quality of human life.
