The research focuses on an analysis of the characteristics and determinants of migration of teachers from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology from Minas Gerais (IFMG), Campus Bambuí, assuming there is an association between life quality and migration trajectory, ie, it assumed that the constant migration of these servers would be associated with the different dimensions of life quality experienced and prospective. In this context the question discussed was the association or not of migration with the development of the city or with the conditions of the educational institution the servers were attached to. From this perspective, the relevance and weight that these families attribute to various aspects of life quality (social, emotional, physical, mental or intellectual, spiritual and economic) could become factors in deciding on migrating or permanence. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the characteristics and interfaces between migration and life quality, the reality of the former servers, featuring sociodemographic migrants, identifying the main factors that motivated their leave and check life quality before and after the process. The unit of empirical analysis is related to current Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology from Minas Gerais (IFMG) Bambuí Campus. The study population included all cases of emigration of servers from the period between 1999 and 2009. The research used a qualitative and quantitative approach and a descriptive and exploratory method, with the participation of 24 migrant families who responded to a semi-structured questionnaire, sent to the email address of the study population. Issues such as migration, life quality and social networks were addressed. When completed, the collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The open questions were explored through a selection of responses and subsequent categorization. The results show that the main reasons for emigration of IFMG servers database were related to family and family interests, as well as the need for better infrastructure, job opportunities, educational opportunities and career enhancement. From the standpoint of the effect of migration on life quality the research revealed that most servers have noticed improvement in life quality of the other cities when compared to Bambuí. Based on the facts analyzed it is not difficult to conclude that, being the family the main force for the migration, perhaps the most adequate term to be used is return instead of migration, hence the servers were compelled to join their families. It was possible to conclude that among the main motivations for the evasion process of the servers from IFMG Bambuí, the ones with most weight were family and better life conditions enhanced by Bambuí s infra-structure limitations.
