Resumo: Worldwide pulp and paper industries have undergone changing due to changes in the industrial acceleration setting associated to rapid emergence of technologies. Industry challenges touch upon aspects from raw material quality and final product, environmental considerations, production costs control as well as modification and improvement of technologies used in the manufacturing process. Development and technologies improvement may represent an alternative to ensure the prosperity of pulp and paper industries. Accordingly the aim of this work was to implement operational improvements on Suzano Pulp and Paper washing filters (in Mucuri) to increase the brownstock washing efficiency and evaluate the impact on bleaching chemicals consumption, weak black liquor circuit and environment. Basically the actions implemented for washing process optimization were: Showers washing flow reduction of the thickeners filters showers where it worked with attached sheet detaching. The filter vat level control was set up to Auto mode; vacuum valve mechanic tune; insert approximately 111 m3/h clear condensate into filtrate circuit; reduced dilution factor of first washing press and washing filters filtrate tank level control around 40 50%. The material used on this study was eucalyptus pulp produced on Suzano Pulp and Paper Mucuri BA line 1. All analysis on different situations followed the real pulp mill productions and processes. Data regarding the primary raw material for obtaining cellulose, wood, were not evaluated, since it considers that the wood chemistry and physics composition are random parameters, therefore have no influence on the results of this study. For reference values (white), industrial date were collected thirty production days before and after operational changing in the washing system. Based on the results, it was observed that there was a significant improvement in washing filters operating performance, as evidenced by the results of increasing pre-O2 delignification degree (increased from 27.84 to 31.60%), reduction on washing xiii filters filtrate conductivity (reduction from 28.92 to 25.29 mS / cm), soda loss in alkaline delignification (reduction from 19.50 to 18.75 kg / tsa), increased brightness at the entrance of bleaching (increased from 45.61 to 49.33 ° ISO), reduction of active chlorine (reduction from 44.57 to 38.97 kg / tsa), hydrogen peroxide in bleaching (reduction from 8.34 to 7.82 kg / adt).
