The seeds produced under organic management have great importance because according with the current legislation, the organic production must be based on seeds produced under organic manegement. However, few studies literature related to the production, physiological quality, storage and treatment of seeds produced under organic manegement, mainly of tomato. This study was to evaluate the quality and verify the effect of alternative treatments in seeds of tomato grown under organic management before and after storing them. The work consisted of three experiments. In experiment I, six lots of seeds tomato produced under organic management, deriving of the Rio Grande do Sul and the Espirito Santo, were submitted to germination tests, vigor tests and blotter test. In experiment II, these lots were submitted the alternative sanitary treatments that had consisted of immersion of the seeds in vegetal extracts and distilled water, microbiolization of the seeds, thermotherapy, a treatment standard with commercial fungicide. After, the seeds were evaluated for physiological and sanitary quality. In experiment III, based in the results of the previous experiment, the seeds of the six lots, after stored per one year,were treated with alfavaca-cravo extract (Ocimum gratissimum) in different concentrations and soaking periods. The emergency speed was reduced by the use of the dry heat. The extract of timbó reduced the physiological quality of the tomato seeds. The alfavaca-cravo extract inhibited the incidence of Aspergillus sp. in tomato seeds produced under organic management.
