A aposentadoria do idoso do meio rural: implicações na administração dos recursos familiares e na qualidade de vida

Given the changes arising from population aging rapidly, the figure of the elderly is becoming increasingly important because, with the increase in life expectancy and pension coverage, the elder begins to exercise new roles and demand for new services. Once viewed by society in general as dependent and disabled, the elderly, both from the rural and the urban area, is more active and has become the head of family, thereby altering the entire family relationships and household economy. However, most research on the contribution of the elderly in family income refers to the urban retired seniors, there is an absence of more studies that address the rural retired ones. To contribute to the reduction of this gap, this study attempted to analyze the perceptions of rural elderly retirees, as well as their families on the income share of the elderly in the management of human and material resources of rural families, in addition to their implications for the elder's quality of life and the family group. The research approach grounded in quantitative and qualitative descriptive and exploratory nature, was developed in Viçosa-MG, the sample comprised 65 seniors of both genders, residents in rural areas, lucid and retired by the INSS, and by 65 family, each referring to a family elder. The sample was randomly selected, using the technique of drawing, and from there gister of rural pensioners from the INSS and some of criteria established. In order to perform the data collection, different techniques were combined, namely: memory test, the questionnaires World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument Bref (WHOQOL-Bref) and World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument for Older Persons (WHOQOL-module OLD), the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as semi-structured interviews and field notes. The treatment of the quantitative data was done using descriptive statistics through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) - Version 13.0, and qualitative data, based on content analysis. The results showed the crucial importance of the income of retired rural senior in the household economy, because in 80% of cases, the elderly accounted for at least 50% of family income and without it, this would be reduced by 78, 78% on average. It was found that there is a situation of dependence of family economic resources of retired seniors, especially from their children and grandchildren who, for economic and family problems such as unemployment, low income, unplanned pregnancy, divorce and other events, establish relationships dependencies with their retired seniors, whether or not to cohabit with them. Regarding to evaluating the quality of life for seniors through the results of the WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-Old, it was found that rural elderly retirees do not have low quality of life. We conclude that retirement causes significant changes in the life of the rural elderly as in their families, who see social benefit of the elderly, livelihood and better living conditions. We can see the need for further studies and social policies aimed at the families of these seniors, who, after the loss of these family members shall be in extreme poverty, and why not say, of abandonment.
