Resumo: This work was done from a experiment conducted, which provided information that will be presented as three chapters. The substitution of soybean meal by detoxified castor bean meal was evaluated in four levels, 0; 33; 37 and 100% (dry matter basis) in the concentrate of Santa Inês lambs. In the first chapter, it was described the performance of 24 Santa Inês breed lambs, with 18.5 kg mean body weight and four months mean age, distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments, which were the substitution levels (0; 33; 67 and 100%) of soybean meal by detoxified castor bean meal and six repetitions. The intake of dry matter (DM) (g/day, body weight % (BW %) and g/BW0.75), total carbohydrates (TC), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), total digestible nutrients (TDN), metabolizable energy (ME) and digestible energy (DE) was not influenced by the levels of castor bean meal, with no model adjusted to the data. Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) intake (g/day, BW % and g/BW0.75) showed increasing linear response. For non fiber carbohydrates (NFC) (g/day) and ether extract (EE) intake, it was observed a decreasing linear response. There was no effect of the levels of substitution of soybean meal by detoxified castor bean meal on DM, OM, CP, NDF, TC and NFC digestibility coefficient, except for the EE, which presented increasing linear behavior. The final body weight, mean daily weight gain and total weight gain showed decreasing linear effect with the inclusion of the levels of castor bean meal in the diet. The feed conversion had increasing linear behavior. In the second chapter, the ingestive behavior of Santa Inês sheep receiving diets with different levels of detoxified castor bean meal in the concentrate was related. Twenty four lambs, with 18.5 kg mean body weight and four months of age were used. They were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments and six repetitions. The treatments were constituted of four levels of castor bean meal (0; 33; 67 and 100%) in substitution to soybean meal. The DM intake was not affected by the castor bean meal in the concentrate. The NDF intake increased. Feeding activity was not affected by castor bean meal inclusion. The rumination time increased, while idle time reduced with the inclusion of castor bean meal. The feeding time, expressed in minutes per kg of DM and NDF, was not influenced by castor bean meal inclusion in the diet, showing mean values of 373.3 and 880.0 minutes per kg of DM and NDF, respectively. The rumination, expressed in minutes per kg of NDF, was not altered. The chewing number and the time spent per each ruminated bolus were not altered by castor bean meal inclusion in the diet. Feeding, rumination and idle periods did not differ with the inclusion of castor bean meal levels. Feeding efficiency, expressed in g of DM and NDF per hour, was not influenced by castor bean meal inclusion in the diet. Rumination efficiency, expressed in g of DM per hour, was reduced, while rumination efficiency, expressed in g of NDF per hour was not affected. The castor bean meal addition does not alter feeding time and feeding efficiency of confined sheep. However, it reduces rumination efficiency and increases NDF intake in each meal and NDF rumination. In the third chapter, the chemical composition in fatty acids of the Longissimus dorsi muscle of Santa Inês lambs fed diets with different castor bean meal levels (0; 33; 67 and 100%) in the concentrate was described. Twenty four lambs, with 18.5 kg mean body weight and four months of age were used, distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments and six repetitions. There was no effect of castor bean meal inclusion on water, ash, crude protein and total lipids of the Longissimus muscle of the lambs. The inclusion of castor bean meal in the concentrate influenced, in a negative quadratic mode, the fatty acids pentadecanoic (C15:00) and α-linolenic (C18:03n3), showing minimum point of 5.08 and 0.15% at the level of 53.47 and 54.16%, respectively. For oleic acid (C18:01n9), a positive quadratic behavior was observed, showing maximum point of 51.05% at the level of 35.41% of castor bean meal. For the fatty acids docosanoic (C22:0) and γ-linolenic (C18:03n6), it was verified a decreasing linear behavior. The other fatty acids were not altered by castor bean meal addition. The total contents of monounsaturated fatty acids were influenced, in a positive quadratic mode, by the levels of inclusion of castor bean meal in the concentrate, showing maximum value of 51.63% for the level of 40.43% of castor bean meal.

Avaliou-se a substituição do farelo de soja pelo farelo de mamona destoxificado, em quatro níveis, 0; 33; 67 e 100% (com base na matéria seca) no concentrado de cordeiros Santa Inês. No primeiro capítulo, descreveu-se o desempenho de 24 cordeiros da raça Santa Inês, com peso corporal médio de 18,5 kg e média de quatro meses de idade, distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro tratamentos, sendo estes os níveis de substituição (0; 33; 67 e 100%) do farelo de soja pelo farelo de mamona destoxificado e seis repetições. O consumo de matéria seca (MS) (g/dia, % Peso Corporal (PC) e g/PC0,75), carboidratos totais (CT), matéria orgânica (MO), proteína bruta (PB), nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT), energia metabolizável (EM) e energia digestível (ED) não foi influenciado pelos níveis de farelo de mamona, não sendo ajustado nenhum modelo aos dados. O consumo de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) (g/dia, %PC e g/PC0,75) apresentou resposta linear crescente. Já para o de carboidratos não fibrosos (CNF) (g/dia) e extrato etéreo (EE), observou-se resposta linear decrescente. Não foi observado efeito dos níveis de substituição do farelo de soja pelo farelo de mamona sobre o coeficiente de digestibilidade da MS, MO, PB, FDN, CT e CNF, exceto para o EE, que apresentou comportamento linear crescente. O peso corporal final, ganho médio diário e ganho de peso total apresentaram efeito linear decrescente com a inclusão dos níveis de farelo de mamona na dieta. Já para a conversão alimentar, verificou-se comportamento linear crescente. No segundo capítulo, relatou-se o comportamento ingestivo de ovinos da raça Santa Inês recebendo dietas com diferentes níveis de farelo de mamona destoxificado no concentrado. Foram utilizados 24 ovinos, com peso corporal médio de 18,5 kg e quatro meses de idade. Os animais foram distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos e seis repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos de quatro níveis de farelo de mamona (0; 33; 67 e 100%) em substituição ao farelo de soja. O consumo de MS não foi afetado pela inclusão de farelo de mamona no concentrado. Já para o FDN, observou-se aumento. A atividade de alimentação não foi afetada com a inclusão de farelo de mamona. O tempo de ruminação aumentou, enquanto o de ócio reduziu com a inclusão de farelo de mamona. O tempo de alimentação, expresso em minutos por kg de MS e FDN, não foi influenciado pela inclusão de farelo de mamona na dieta, apresentando valores médios de 373,3 e 880,0 minutos por kg de MS e FDN, respectivamente. A ruminação, expressa em minutos por kg de FDN, não foi alterada. O número de mastigações e tempo gasto por cada bolo ruminado não foram alterados pela inclusão de farelo de mamona na dieta. Os períodos de alimentação, ruminação e ócio não diferiram com a inclusão dos níveis de farelo de mamona. A eficiência de alimentação, expressa em g de MS e FDN por hora, não foi influenciada pela inclusão de farelo de mamona na dieta. A eficiência de ruminação, expressa em g MS por hora, foi reduzida, enquanto a eficiência de ruminação, expressa em g FDN por hora não foi afetada. A adição de farelo de mamona não altera o tempo de alimentação e eficiência de alimentação de ovinos confinados. Porém, reduz a eficiência de ruminação e aumenta a ingestão de FDN em cada refeição e a ruminação da FDN. No terceiro capítulo, descreveu-se a composição química em ácidos graxos do músculo Longissimus dorsi de cordeiros Santa Inês alimentados com dietas com diferentes níveis (0; 33; 67 e 100%) de farelo de mamona no concentrado. Foram utilizados 24 ovinos, com peso corporal médio 18,5 kg e média de quatro meses de idade, distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos e seis repetições. Não houve efeito da inclusão de farelo de mamona sobre as percentagens de umidade, cinza, proteína bruta e lipídeos totais do músculo Longissimus dos cordeiros. A inclusão de farelo de mamona no concentrado influenciou, de forma quadrática negativa, os ácidos graxos pentadecanóico (C15:00) e α- linolênico (C18:03n3), apresentando ponto de mínima de 5,08 e 0,15% no nível de 53,47 e 54,16%, respectivamente. Já para o ácido oléico (C18:01n9), observouse comportamento quadrático positivo, apresentando ponto de máxima de 51,05% no nível de 35,41% de farelo de mamona. Para os ácidos graxos docosanóico (C22:0) e γ- linolênico (C18:03n6), verificou-se comportamento linear decrescente. Os demais ácidos graxos não foram alterados pela adição de farelo de mamona. There was no effect of castor bean meal inclusion on water, ash, crude protein and total lipids of the Longissimus muscle of the lambs. The inclusion of castor bean meal in the concentrate influenced, in a negative quadratic mode, the fatty acids pentadecanoic (C15:00) and α-linolenic (C18:03n3), showing minimum point of 5.08 and 0.15% at the level of 53.47 and 54.16%, respectively. For oleic acid (C18:01n9), a positive quadratic behavior was observed, showing maximum point of 51.05% at the level of 35.41% of castor bean meal. For the fatty acids docosanoic (C22:0) and γ-linolenic (C18:03n6), it was verified a decreasing linear behavior. The other fatty acids were not altered by castor bean meal addition. The total contents of monounsaturated fatty acids were influenced, in a positive quadratic mode, by the levels of inclusion of castor bean meal in the concentrate, showing maximum value of 51.63% for the level of 40.43% of castor bean meal.
