Resumo: | This study aimed to develop and to improve cultivation systems adapted for oil palm that make possible increases in productivity, as well as the use of altered/degraded areas of Amazonian, as ecological, economical and socially viable alternative. The experiment was installed in experimental area of Western Amazonian Embrapa, in Manaus, AM. The experimental design was a randomized block with three replications and eight treatments. The treatments were constituted of four cultivation systems: oil palm x banana, oil palm x cassava, oil palm x pineapple and oil palm in mono cultivation, with and without liming. The experiment had the length of three year-old. During the experiment, the cultural management was done according to need for each system. At 12 months age, the circumference of the stem of oil palm was evaluated. At 30 months age, the growth was evaluated through measurements of the circumference of the stem, width and thickness of rachis, number of leaves per plant, and number of leaflets and length of the leaf number nine. Soil fertility was evaluated through soil chemical analysis, at 18 and 30 months age, and oil palm nutrition, at 30 months age, through chemical analysis of leaflets of the leaf number nine. Yield of inter crops was quantified by the following variables: banana bunch and racemes weight; cassava fresh roots weight; pineapple number and weight of fruits. For incomes, it was considered the real prices of local market paid to farmers during the three years of evaluation. The indicators used to evaluate the financial performance of cultivation systems were net present value, difference between incomes and updated costs for certain discount rate, and internal rate of return. Among the evaluated systems, the oil palm x pineapple presented better performance, providing amortization of 100% of the implantation costs and maintenance of the system in period of three years, while the systems oil palm x banana and palm oil x cassava provided amortization of 86,7% and 64,5%, respectively. In general, the cultivation systems contributed significantly and differently to improvement of soil fertility and to oil palm growth. |

In general, the cultivation systems contributed significantly and differently to improvement of soil fertility and to oil palm growth.
