Resumo: This work was prepared from two experiments with beef heifers submitted to different supplementation strategies on pasture. In the first experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of replacing soybean meal by soybean on nutritional parameters, microbial efficiency and productive and reproductive performance of heifers grazing in Uruchloa decumbens in the transition period water-dry. Were used 39 crossbred heifers with initial age and initial weight of 18 months and 292±6 kg, respectively. The experimental design was completely randomized with four treatments with eight replicates, and a control treatment with seven replications. The supplements contained 35% crude protein (CP). Two treatments had soybean meal as protein source and the other two treatments were based on replacement of soybean meal by soybean at 100%. The animals of the control group received only mineral salt ad libitum. The supplemented animals had high average daily gain (ADG) than control animals (P<0.10), and there was difference in ADG among the supplements (P>0.10). There was effect of supplementation (P <0.10) on intake of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC), total digestible nutrients (NDT) and neutral detergent fiber corrected for ash and protein (NDF). There were no differences (P>0.10) on intake of OM and DM grazing between the supplemented and non-supplemented. Supplementation improved DM digestibility and all constituents of the diet (P<0.10), with the exception of NDF (P>0.10). The heifers reached the required weight for there to be the first conception, but the genetics of animals did not favor the onset of puberty in this phase. It is concluded that the provision of multiple supplements optimizes the performance of heifers grazing during the period of water-dry transition and that the substitution of soybean meal by soybean provided in the amount of 0.5 kg/animal/day amending productive performance of animals. The second experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of replacement of soybean meal by soybean in multiple supplements on nutritional parameters, microbial efficiency and productive and reproductive performance of heifers grazing in Uruchloa decumbens during the drought period. Were used the same 39 crossbred heifers with initial age and initial weight of 21 months and 309,5±7 kg, respectively. The experimental design was completely randomized with four treatments with eight replicates, and a control treatment with seven replications. Two treatments had soybean meal as protein source and two treatments had soybean as protein source, containing 25% and 40% crude protein. It was offered 1.0 kg/animal/day of supplement. The animals of the control group received only mineral salt ad libitum. The supplemented animals had high average daily gain (ADG) than control animals (P<0.10), and there was no difference in ADG among the supplements (P>0.10). There was effect of supplementation (P <0.10) on intake of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC), total digestible nutrients (TDN) and neutral detergent fiber corrected for ash and protein (NDF). There were no differences (P>0.10) on intake of OM and DM grazing between the supplemented and non-supplemented. Supplementation improved DM digestibility and all constituents of the diet (P<0.10). It is concluded that the provision of multiple supplements optimizes the performance of heifers grazing during the dry season, and that the substitution of soybean meal by soybean did not amending productive performance of animals.
