Resumo: The study of the testicular morphophysiology in wild animals has been increased in the last years, seeking the development of protocols in assisted reproduction, due the constants threats on the fauna with the crescent human development. On the other hand, some few species, like the procyonids coati (Nasua nasua), present great adaptability to adverse conditions, becoming sinantropic animals, and generating harmful consequences to environmental and to public health. However, even in these cases, the knowledge of the reproductive biology can generate strategies to population control. Among the basic knowledge, the histological quantification of the testicle and their corporal correlations it is an important requirement, besides the quantification and description of the intertubular compartment. The main quantitative element in this compartment and with great functional prominence is the Leydig cell s, once it act in the production of androgynous, especially the testosterone. This hormone carries out very important function in the gametogenic physiology and it is still indispensable in the modulation of accessory sexual characteristics and of the masculine behavior. In this sense, seen the shortage of information in the literature the present work aims the description of morphometric data of the testicle of adult coatis, besides characterizing the interstitial tissue of these animals. For that, five adult male coati were used, being one originating from Centro de Triagem de Animais Silvestres da UFV(CETAS-UFV), two of the Centro de Reabilitação de Animais Silvestres de Mato Grosso do Sul (CRAS-MT) and other two of the Municipal Zoo of Alfenas-MG. Each animal was chemically contained, weighted and submitted to a testicular incision biopsy for collection of one fragment and subsequent histological processing. The medium of corporal mass was 5,58 Kg and the medium volume of the testicles 4,75 mL, what corresponds to 0,089 % of gonadossomatic index and 0,058 % of tubulossomatic index. The testicular albuginea represent about 14,50 %, while the testicular parenchima 85,50% of the weight of the testicle. The testicular parenchyma is composed of 77,60 % of seminiferous tubules and 22,40 % of interstitial tissue. The medium diameter of the cross section of the seminiferous tubule and the medium thickness of the seminiferous epithelium consist respectively of 230,40 and 81,24 μm. The total length of the seminiferous tubules was 77,11 m, and the length of seminiferous tubules for each gram of testicle was 16,08 m/g. The interstitial tissue is composed mainly of Leydig cell s (15,38 %), connective tissue (5,24 %), lymphatic vessels (1,15 %) and blood vessels (0,66 %). The Leydig cell s usually form clusters in string shapes, present a medium diameter of the nucleus of 7,73 μm, medium nuclear volume of 243,04 μm3 and medium cellular volume of 1660,24 μm3. The averages of the total number of Leydig cell s in the testicles and number of Leydig cell s per gram of testicle, are respectively, 391 and 81 million. The leydigossomatic index corresponds to 0,010 % of the corporal weight. It is concluded with the animals in study that N. nasua possesses quantitative parameters of the tubular compartment inside of the range of data described already for other carnivorous. The intertubular compartment arrangement of this species is classified in the type II, like literature, and the nuclear mensuration and volumetric proportions obtained from Leydig cell s are also inside of the variation range of data expressed for other carnivores already studied.

Por outro lado, algumas poucas espécies, como o quati (Nasua nasua), pertencente a ordem Carnívora e a família Procyonidae, apresentam grande adaptabilidade à condições adversas, tornando-se animais sinantrópicos, e gerando desta forma conseqüências danosas ambientais e de saúde pública. Porém, mesmo nestes casos, o conhecimento da biologia reprodutiva pode gerar estratégias de controle populacional. Dentre os conhecimentos básicos, a quantificação histológica dos componentes testiculares tubular e intertubular, além de suas correlações corporais, é um importante requisito. O principal elemento quantitativo e de destaque funcional neste compartimento são as células de Leydig, uma vez que atuam na produção de andrógenos, em especial a testosterona. Este hormônio desempenha função cabal na fisiologia gametogênica e ainda é imprescindível na modulação de características sexuais acessórias e do comportamento masculino. Neste sentido, visto a escassez de informações na literatura o presente trabalho objetiva a descrição de dados morfométrica do testículo de quatis adultos, além de caracterizar o tecido intersticial destes animais. Para isso, foram utilizados cinco quatis machos adultos, sendo um proveniente do Centro de Triagem de Animais Silvestres-UFV (CETAS-UFV), dois do Centro de Reabilitação de Animais Silvestres (CRAS-MT) e outros dois do Zoológico Municipal de Alfenas-MG. Cada animal foi contido quimicamente, pesado e submetido a uma biópsia incisional testicular para coleta do fragmento e posterior processamento histológico. A massa corporal média foi de 5,58 Kg e o volume médio dos testículos de 4,75 mL, o que corresponde a 0,089 % de índice gonadossomático e 0,058 % de índice tubulossomático. A albugínea testicular representa cerca de 14,50 %, enquanto que o parênquima testicular 85,50 % do peso do testículo. O parênquima testicular é composto de 77,60 % de túbulos seminíferos e 22,40 % de tecido intersticial. O diâmetro médio da secção transversal do túbulo seminífero e a espessura média do epitélio seminífero consistem respectivamente de 230,40 e 81,24 μm. O comprimento total dos túbulos seminíferos foi de 77,11 m e o comprimento de túbulos seminíferos por grama de testículo foi de 16,08 m/g. O tecido intersticial é composto principalmente de células de Leydig (15,38 %), além de tecido conjuntivo (5,24 %), vasos linfáticos (1,15 %) e vasos sanguíneos (0,66%). As células de Leydig arranjam-se geralmente em grupos e formam cordões celulares, apresentam um diâmetro médio do núcleo de 7,73 μm, volume nuclear médio de 243,04 μm3 e volume celular médio de 1660,24 μm3. As médias do número total de células de Leydig nos testículos e número de células de Leydig por grama de testículo são, respectivamente, 391 e 81 milhões. O índice leydigossomático corresponde a 0,010 % do peso corporal. Concluí-se, com os animais em estudo, que N. nasua possui parâmetros quantitativos do compartimento tubular dentro da amplitude de dados já descritos para outros carnívoros.
