Resumo: In the present study, the effects were evaluated for electrolyte solutions administered via small-bore nasoesophagus tube on clinical parameters, hematologic, biochemical, plasma volume, digesta, feces and urine in healthy and dehydrated equines experimentally. They were used four crossbred equines, two castrated males and two females, with body weight between 285 and 391 kg and age between 7 and 14 years, with an experimental fistula in right dorsal colon. The Latin square design was used, considering the effect of animal, treatment and time. The study was divided into two experiments. Experiment 1 were used healthy equines, while in 2, the animals were dehydrated experimentally by restricting water and polyuria. In both experiments the animals were subjected to each of the following treatments: SE-treated with isotonic electrolyte solution; SEGli-treated with isotonic electrolyte solution more glucose; SEMalt-treated with isotonic electrolyte solution more maltodextrine and SEMg- treated with a dose of magnesium sulphate (1g/kg) and isotonic electrolyte solution. The electrolyte solution used in all treatments was administered at a dose of 15ml/kg/h during 12h via probe nasoesophagus by continuous flow. The parameters were evaluated at the time 0 h, 6 h, 12 h, 18 h and 24 h in experiment 1, which were 12 h of fluid therapy and observation and 12 hours of observation, and -24 h, 0 h, 6 h, 12 h, 18 h and 24 h in experiment 2, is composed of 24 hours of dehydration, 12 hours of fluid therapy and observation and 12 hours of observation. The protocol of dehydration promoted mild dehydration, indicated by the reduction of the corporal weight and increase in the concentration of total plasma protein and hematocrit. The enteral fluid therapy through nasoesophagus probe of thin gauge was well tolerated by the animals and allowed them to feed normally. The treatments with the electrolyte solutions resulted in increase on the plasma volume, polyuria, glycosuria, hydration of the digesta, and feces. There was a reduction in the values of the total plasma protein, hematocrit, the viscosity of digesta and urinary density. The values of plasma electrolyte remained within the limits acceptable to clinically healthy animals.
