Resumo: The quantitative hydrological processes and water quality parameters were assessed during the development period of a macaúba palm cultivation (September 2012 to august 2013), at the UFV Experimental Farm, municipality of Araponga MG. The goals of this work were evaluating: pH, turbidity end electrical conductivity in the internal precipitation and stemflow waters; and the correlation between total precipitation and internal precipitation, stemflow and surface runoff. The study was divided into four chapters and a literature review. Chapter 1 presents a study concerning net precipitation and interception by the macauba palm cultivation. Chapter 2 approaches the relationship between the number of leaves and the stemflow. Chapter 3 discusses the correlation between surface runoff and total precipitation as affected by three treatments: T1 with four macauba palm individuals planted in caves, T2 with four macauba palm individuals planted in caves and a barrier contour and T3 with four macauba palm individuals planted in caves and common bean cultivations in the macauba interrows. Chapter 4 discusses the changes promoted on rain water turbidity, electrical conductivity and pH by the interaction with macauba palm plants. Precipitation (total and internal), stemflow and surface runoff water samples were obtained through PVC pluviometers, flow collectors made of motorcycle tires and surface runoff parcels delimited by metal sheets, respectively. During the period of 12 months the total precipitation was 1339.5 mm, and the internal precipitation, the stemflow, the net precipitation and the loss by interception represented 90.08, 4.55, 94.63 and 5.37% of total precipitation, respectively. The increase in the number of leaves per plant led to increases in the water volume collected through stemflow, as the stemflow of plants with 10, 13, 18 and 22 leaves represented 2.39, 3.97, 5.08 and 6.72% of the total precipitation. The surface runoff was significantly decreased when the barrier contours were used (T2), representing 0,1% of the total precipitation, whereas in the treatments T1 and T3 it represented 0.21 and 0.26% of the total precipitation, respectively. The water from stemflow showed high values for turbidity and electrical conductivity when compared to the water collected to estimate total and internal precipitation, which did not show significant differences among them. The results of the present study suggest that, due to its funnel shape, macauba palm plants promote a good rain water redistribution and a high stemflow, thus favoring the water infiltration in the soil. Also, the interaction between the rain water and the plants stem promotes nutrient cycling.
