Resumo: | The whey of cheese has a high amount of organic substances, mainly represented by the lactose and protein, and may cause great environmental impact when released into the environment without any treatment, so to seek alternative treatment of whey, which minimize or eliminate the negative effects of its discharge. In this direction, the goal of this study was to evaluate the performance of the system of effluent treatment, upflow anaerobic filter (FA), in laboratory scale in the treatment of formulated effluent with different concentrations cheese whey. It was evaluated flow rates of food by 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 mL.min-1 and consequently different loads organic volume 3.66, 7.17 and 11.02 kg COD.m-3.day-1. The percentage of the COD reduction ranged from 88 to 60% in the removal of COD. Keeping up the flow of 0.2 mL.min-1, were tested different concentrations of whey of cheese and therefore different loads organic volume, 1.74, 2.88 and 3.66 kg COD.m-3.day- 1. In this step, the percentage of removal of COD ranged from 82-88%. Finally, the system was operated using two anaerobic filters connected in series for the treatment of effluent, under different flow rates of food and observed that for the flow rates of 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 mL/min, provided a percentage reduction of COD of 93.77, 91.87 and 85.43% respectively. According to the results, it was possible to conclude that upflow anaerobic filter may be an alternative to pre-treatment of tributary that containing whey of cheese. |
