The decision to locate a company can involve large capital investments and generate significant impact on production costs. Thus, a comprehensive study on where to install it can promote a competitive advantage due to increased efficiency, proximity to raw materials, reduction of transport costs among others. Given the importance of this sector saw the necessity of studying the locational dynamics. Thus, this study aimed to identify the main factors conditioning the implementation of mills of this sector. For which a survey was conducted with several plants in the state of Minas Gerais, evaluating the different determining factors for choosing the region and the municipality as well as factors that lead to change or expand elsewhere. We also evaluated the potential induction of the state and the expansion of the cultivation of cane sugar, inferred through analysis of the areas of plants registered in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply - MAPA, and the legal provisions of State Decree 45,041, which regulates the installation of new enterprises devoted to the production of sugar and alcohol. For data collection were used structured questionnaires, and its results are treated by analysis of its consistency by Cronbach's alpha, and analysis of the factors ranking of priorities. Since after analysis, were considered as factors of high locational influences, obtaining raw materials, land, access conditions, the costs related to labor and land, environmental factors, suitability of soils for growing sugar cane sugar among others. Was also used in the generation of maps and cross to identify information about the areas of suitability for the cultivation of sugar cane and disposition of the coverage areas of existing plants. This combination of information has shown that the expansion of sugar cane and the installation of new projects may be prioritized in the regions of Unai and Paracatu and micro such as sponsorship, Ducks mine, Uberaba and Pirapora. It is concluded that the state of Minas Gerais has a high potential land available for expansion of sugar crops, and for the installation of new ventures in the sector, taking into account that the Decree No. 45041 prohibits the new plants have the same coverage areas.
