The aging population has placed new demands for scientific study, in order to better understand the elderly and the various phenomena related to this population. In this context, this study aimed to deepen the relationship of the elderly with domestic technologies, seeking to answer how these could be thought to contribute to the promotion of autonomy of these subjects. The overall objective of this study, therefore, was to examine the use of a technology-related domestic cooking, for the elderly, regarding the appropriateness to their specific usage and contribution to the maintenance of autonomy. Specifically sought to study the method developed by the Laboratory INTERACTIVE; study the interactive processes between subject and domestic technology chosen to work in their daily lives; and relate the observed points in the process of interaction between the subject and domestic technology chosen for their contribution achieving autonomy. The method employed was to study the activity developed by the Laboratory INTERACTIVE, which consisted of a series of combined techniques such as observations, interviews and heuristic evaluation. Thus, three elderly with heterogeneous characteristics were selected to perform the field phase of the study, in which the activities involving domestic technology in the study were followed. It could be seen that the three were older patterns of interaction with domestic technology quite distinct data that were mainly on past experience, the technical attributes of the artifact in relation to other subjects and the vision they had of themselves elderly, the world and others. It was also possible to see that these interaction patterns to indicate different levels of autonomy of the participants during the activities observed. Thus, we conclude that the domestic technologies have the potential to contribute in maintaining the autonomy of the elderly, but for that it requires two steps: first, thinking technologies more consistent with the reality of the activities that will equip; and second, rebuild the image of "old age", so that the elderly subjects see themselves as able to use such technologies, and thus have greater autonomy in carrying out their daily activities.
