Resumo: Leaf anatomy, morphological characteristics and nutritive value of signalgrass (Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk) and forage peanut (Arachis pintoi cv. Amarillo) were evaluated in response to three shade levels (0, 50 and 70%). The aim of this study was to determine the acclimation and yield capacity of these forage species under low light. Treatments were arranged in three replicates of a randomized complete block design. There were three and two harvests within the experimental period, for signalgrass and forage peanut, respectively. Grass and legume showed changes in leaf anatomy and morphological characteristics that affected its dry matter production and nutritive value under shade. In general, dry matter production of both species decreased (P<0.01) with shade. Shading promoted significant increase (P<0.05) of specific leaf area (SLA) of forage species, in all harvests evaluated. In signalgrass leaves, the SLA increase was followed by a linear reduction (P<0.05) in leaf thickness, under shade. On the other hand, forage peanut leaf thickness was not altered by shade, in spite of linear decrease (P<0.05) of palisade parenchyma thickness. Stomatal density was decreased linearly (P<0.05) on both leaf surfaces when forage peanut and signalgrass were grown under increased shade levels. The leaf blade cross-sectional area occupied by different tissues was not affected by treatments, with some exceptions in signalgrass leaves. Leaf area per leaflet and leaf area per tiller increased (P<0.05) with decreased light levels. Nevertheless, leaf area index (LAI) was not changed in studied species, except in the second harvest for forage peanut, where occurred linear decrease (P<0.05) of LAI with shading. In all harvests, average sward height, forage peanut petiole length, as well as signalgrass stem and leaf blade length were significantly increased (P<0.05) by shade. On the other hand, tiller population density in signalgrass sward decreased linearly (P<0.001) with shading, in the three harvests evaluated. Mean tiller weight was only affected in the third harvest, showing a linear increment (P<0.01) with increasing shading. In general, the proportion of leaves and stems, and consequently leaf:stem ratio were not altered (P>0.05) by treatments, in both species. Dry matter content of signalgrass and forage peanut decreased (P<0.05) with shade. Moreover, under shade, both species showed greater (P<0.05) crude protein content. In the two harvests of forage peanut, plants submitted to increased shade levels presented significant increment (P<0.05) in neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) content. In the first harvest of signalgrass, shading did not promote significant alteration (P>0.05) in plant cell wall content, but in the second harvest it was observed linear reduction (P<0.05) in NDF and ADF content under shade. The variation in macronutrients concentration was not consistent between species and harvests, but in general, the concentrations were higher under shade. In spite of chemical alterations found under shade, the in vitro dry matter digestibility of signalgrass and forage peanut was not significantly affected (P>0,05) in any harvest. Anatomical and morphological changes observed in plants under shade indicate species acclimation and tolerance to low light conditions, but nutritive value of grass and legume was not expressively affected by shading. Signalgrass and forage peanut have great potential to produce quality forage in silvopastoral systems where light transmission level stay around 50% of photosynthetically active radiation.

Basilisk) e do amendoim forrageiro (Arachis pintoi cv. Amarillo) foram avaliadas em resposta a diferentes níveis de sombreamento artificial (0, 50 e 70%), com o objetivo de se determinar a aclimatação e capacidade produtiva destas forrageiras sob luminosidade reduzida. O estudo foi conduzido sob delineamento em blocos completamente casualizados, com três repetições. Foram realizados três e dois cortes, respectivamente, para avaliação das plantas de braquiária e amendoim forrageiro, ao longo do período experimental. Tanto a gramínea quanto a leguminosa apresentaram alterações anatômicas e morfológicas que afetaram a produção e o valor nutritivo das forrageiras sob sombra. De modo geral, ocorreu redução (P<0,01) na produção de matéria seca (PMS) das espécies em função dos níveis crescentes de sombra. O sombreamento promoveu aumento significativo (P<0,05) da área foliar específica (AFE) das plantas, em todos os cortes avaliados. Nas folhas de braquiária o aumento da AFE foi acompanhado por redução linear (P<0,05) na espessura das folhas sob sombra. Por outro lado, a espessura das folhas de amendoim forrageiro não sofreu alteração significativa com o sombreamento, apesar da redução linear (P<0,05) na espessura do parênquima paliçádico. A densidade estomática nas faces adaxial e abaxial da epiderme das folhas de amendoim forrageiro e braquiária diminuiu linearmente (P<0,05) com o incremento nos níveis de sombra, em todos os cortes avaliados. Já a área ocupada pelos diferentes tecidos na seção transversal de folha, com algumas exceções nas folhas de braquiária, não sofreu grandes alterações em função dos tratamentos. Acompanhando o incremento da AFE, a área foliar por folíolo e a área foliar por perfilho também apresentaram aumento significativo (P<0,05) com a redução dos níveis de luz. Já o índice de área foliar (IAF) não foi alterado pelos tratamentos nas forrageiras estudadas, exceto no segundo corte do amendoim forrageiro, onde se observou redução linear (P<0,05) do IAF com o aumento do sombreamento. O sombreamento crescente estimulou aumento significativo (P<0,05) do comprimento de pecíolos, colmos e lâminas foliares, juntamente com a altura média do dossel, nas espécies avaliadas, em todos os cortes estudados. Os níveis crescentes de sombra também promoveram diminuição linear (P<0,001) da densidade populacional de perfilhos (nº m-2) no dossel de braquiária. Por outro lado, o peso médio dos perfilhos só foi afetado de modo significativo no terceiro corte, observando-se aumento linear (P<0,01) com o incremento nos níveis de sombra. De modo geral, a proporção de folhas e caules/colmos e conseqüentemente a relação folha:caule/colmo, tanto da gramínea quanto da leguminosa, não foram afetadas significativamente (P>0,05) pelos tratamentos. O teor de matéria seca das duas espécies avaliadas foi reduzido (P<0,05) com o aumento dos níveis de sombra. Tanto o amendoim forrageiro quanto a braquiária, apresentaram incremento (P<0,05) no teor de PB em função do sombreamento. As plantas de amendoim forrageiro, submetidas a níveis crescentes de sombra, apresentaram incremento (P<0,05) nos teores de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e fibra em detergente ácido (FDA). Na braquiária, o sombreamento crescente não causou alterações significativas (P>0,05) nos constituintes de parede celular, no primeiro corte. Já as plantas coletadas no segundo corte apresentaram queda linear (P<0,05) nos conteúdos de FDN e FDA, com o incremento nos níveis de sombra. No terceiro corte da gramínea, o sombreamento promoveu incremento (P<0,05) apenas nos teores de FDA. O teor dos macronutrientes cálcio (Ca), magnésio (Mg), fósforo (P) e potássio (K) não apresentou comportamento padrão entre as espécies e cortes avaliados, mas de modo geral, o conteúdo destes minerais, quando alterado, aumentou em função dos níveis crescentes de sombra. Apesar das alterações na composição química das espécies submetidas ao sombreamento, a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS) da gramínea e da leguminosa não foi afetada de modo significativo (P>0,05) em nenhum dos cortes. Embora as plantas sombreadas tenham sofrido alterações anatômicas e morfológicas, que indicam boa aclimatação e tolerância das espécies às condições de baixa luminosidade, o valor nutritivo das forrageiras não foi afetado de forma expressiva pelo sombreamento.
