Resumo: The objectives of the present study were to evaluate diets with different inclusion levels of fat in the milk from goats in the feeding of goat kids during the suckling phase and to study their effect on performance and feed efficiency during the suckling and weaning periods. The experiment was conducted in the Goat Farming Sector of the Department of Animal Sciences in the Center of Agrarian Sciences of Universidade Federal de Viçosa. Five liquid diets based on goat milk, with varied concentrations of fat (24.2, 34.4, 44.3, 65.6 and 82.1 g.kg-1 in the dry matter) were utilized in a completely randomized design in a factorial arrangement with 12 replications per liquid diet, initially. Sixty male newborn kids of the Saanen and Alpine breeds were used for the experiment. The experimental period started from the seventh day of life, where each kid was confined in individual metabolism cages and started receiving 1.5 L milk/day divided in two meals, at 08h00 and 15h00 until 15 days of age; 2 L milk/day in two meals from the 16th to the 52nd day of age; and 1 L milk/day in the afternoon from the 53rd to the 67th day. From the 37th day of life, kids were fed Tifton-85 grass (Cynodon dactylon) ad libitum as roughage and 10 g.kg-1 LW concentrate commercial feed were supplied to each animal. A reference slaughter was performed at seven days of life and four slaughters throughout the experiment (37, 67, 142 and 195 days of life), where 10 animals were randomly chosen (two animals per treatment) for each session. All statistical procedures were programmed on SAS (9.0) through procedure PROC NLIN, adopting 0.05 probability for type I error. There was difference (p<0.001) for the intake of dry matter, protein, fat and non-fibrous carbohydrates in the suckling phase. There was effect (p<0.001) for deposition of crude fat, crude protein and mineral matter in the body of the animal, in the suckling phase. However, after the replacement for solid diet, this difference is reduced in the long term.

However, after the replacement for solid diet, this difference is reduced in the long term.
