The domestic violence against women has been an event of widespread occurrence in contemporary societies, for this reason, researches about the circumstances that are related to this subject should be a matter of fundamental importance. Thus, through the study of categories such as sex, gender and patriarchy, there was an attempt to explain the reasons why women are social individuals that occupy historically unequal position compared to men, with important consequences in all spheres of society, including being characterized as the main victims of domestic violence. This way, it was done a study about the relation between Law and gender in which it was found that the regulation of social life is directly under influences of meaning that is attributed to male and female. From this theoretical framework, it was performed the analysis about the thinking of individuals directly involved with the social problem of domestic violence against women, the executors of the law and women victimized by this type of violence. It was made data collection for quantitative and qualitative information concerning the enforcement of Maria da Penha Law, in the district of Ponte Nova, focusing on the qualitative analysis of this data because of the complexity of the subject and the diversity of methods of data collection. The main objective was give meaning to the personal and professional practices of the people involved in the research, comparing factual data and identifying what these people are able to present as new pathways to be faced in order to overcome those practices, identifying difficulties, progress and obstacles to the effectuation of this law.
