Focusing on the Brazilian context, this research aimed to describe the concepts of Digital Cities and Cyberspace and its implications for the planning and management of cities in Brazil. It also aimed to identify: the government's actions and public policies on the implementation of Digital Cities in Brazil; to analyze the Brazilian Digital City experience; to evaluate the achieved results from the Digital City Project of Piraí; to investigate how the digitalization process is being used in its urban planning and how people have used the resources of information and communication technologies (ICT) provided by this digital cities projects. The adopted methodology is classified as exploratory and descriptive using quantitative and qualitative methods. It is an exploratory research because it allowed describing the concept of the digital cities and cyberspace, to identify the actions of the Brazilian Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Science and Technology for the implementation of digital cities. It is descriptive because published studies on the progress of the program Digital City Piraí were analyzed, with the goal of understanding and describing the results achieved with this experience. In this way, quantitative questionnaires were used and the analyses of the sectors of Education (students and teachers), Revenue, Health, Urban Planning and segments of the Organized Society were qualitative. Results in the Education sector indicate that the use of internet in schools, by students, has contributed to learning and improve an awareness of citizenship. In the Revenue sector of the Municipal Secretary of Finance, the contribution of the use of internet in the Program for Modernization of Tax Administration (PMAT) is a priority to prevent evasion of taxes such as property tax, ISS, ICMS, among others. Internet use in the Health sector has contributed to the administrative routines, having as a priority the integration of hospitals with the clinics; the control of medicines as well as the frequency of doctors and staff. In the Planning sector, it was found that the use of the internet has not encouraged the formation of civic networks on the public management of municipal land, and that the forms of interaction and public participation in the urban planning process are carried out through forum and voting. It was found that the use of the internet in telecenters and kiosks is considered excellent by the segment of the Organized Society, allowing different uses for the less affluent. Although Piraí be considered a digital city, recognized by international bodies, there is a deficiency in a more effective integration of the administrative, education, planning, fundraising, and health sectors with the population.
