The objective of this study was to identify the technologies used by vegetable producers of cucumber and eggplant in the State of Minas Gerais, to identify the possibilities of minimizing the effects of seasonal supply. To carry out this study it was necessary to identify the meso and micro regions and municipalities with greater production/supply in the distribution center of the state of Minas Gerais (Central de Abastecimento de Minas Gerais S.A. - CEASA/MG). The study was carried out in 11 municipalities, four of them in the micro-region of Sete Lagoas, five in the microregion of Belo Horizonte and two in the micro-region of Itaguara. Cucumber and eggplant were the vegetables chosen for this experiment. It was used the technique of structured questionnaire, containing 35 questions applied to 65 producers of cucumber and eggplant. The questionnaire contained specific questions on cultivation techniques, harvesting and post-harvest procedures, marketing and transportation system, control and monitoring of the business, expectation and useful guidelines to improve the business, and use of information and producer profile. Data were collected from June to July 2013. It was found that in the entire production chain, producers of cucumber and eggplant used some production techniques such as drip irrigation, mulching and trellised staking or with sticks. However, those producers employed inadequate management techniques with some lapses in the planning, which led to the lack of product to attend the consumer market in some seasons. It was also found that most of the producers were tenants. This condition of land use practically prevented farmers from carrying out cultivation in protected environment.
